I heard this is a common problem.. But I never got a straight answer (usually there is like 3 different solutions posted on other forums)..

My key will stick about half the time (if not more), I don't think it's related to the shifter since a lot of the time it will turn off and pull out, but the next time I go to put it back in it wont turn at all. It might just be a placebo effect, but it seems to work more often if I put the key in and turn it really fast or push in hard on the key it self before turning.

Is this something with the tumblers? and I will have to pay for a new ignition? Or does it sound a lot like the common problem with the interlock mechanism (BTSI)?

It's gonna be one of those. Real hard to pin point from here.

But if I was to throw parts at it I'd start with the interlock relay.

Neutral Safty Switch maybe? As Herc said, kinda hard to pinpoint that issue.

I had that problem with my cutlass, had to buy a new ignition after the key got stuck, wasnt cheap, but was an easy install.

I have seen worn out keys do this. How about getting a new key made? Also, is your key bent in any way shape or form? This will also do it. A new key is $60+ at stealership or $30 at Ace Hardware, but at Ace, they duplicate you key, so if it is really worn, you will get a new worn key. Dealership "should" be able to cut one by your VIN.

I went to ACE Hardware and they said they could only trace the key I have, so if it's the key then the new one would do the same thing.

The key does look worn, but I am no key maker so I don't know if that's the problem. Seems more likely it would relate to the common problem others have?

Yep, exactly what my post says.
