So I am driving home from work yesterday and this guy honks at me, scart the crud out of me. He never even looked over either and there was no reason for him to do so.

So I am driving to work this morning with no one around me and I hear that guys horn again...doh! It was MY car.

What would make the horn randomly go off for 1/2 a second once a day?

Not sure, but I think I saw this on a citcom once. The guys just started looking back, and saying things like what are you honking @, so people didn't think it was him....
I would guess you have a short somewhere.

The exact same thing has happened to me, probably 8 times in 2 years so far. I'll wait till it gets worse to do anything. I think I read about some other people having similar issues.

What is a SIR coil?

If it happens again I am just going to disconnect the darn horn, lol

It freaks me out to say the least. I have been unable to figure out what is triggering it.

the acctual horn button inside the steering wheel can be causing it, I know on most cars thats a common issue with that button, just a little peice of plastic, but BE CAREFULL of the airbag if you goto check that out!!

Just because of the airbag, I would highly recommend you take it a $tealership to get it done. That's like playing Russian Roulette with an M16. No thank you.

SIR coil is the electrical connection between the stearing wheel and the rest of the car. It's use is to prevent having to have wires getting twisted all the time. Sorta like a brush block.

I know what your talking about, that could be a good cause too, but with me i would take to a shop to do it, i wont do anything near the airbag! crazy

Oh, I don't plan on touching the airbag, don't worry. That is a scary scary thing.

And now I know what your talking about with the SIR connection..I had a similar issue with the wiper delay on my SHO, was full of grease, cleaned it out and everything worked perfect again.

I had that happen to me with one of my other cars, twice. I was having dinner and I heard the horn blaring outside. Turns out the horn wire was grounded out in the column. Second time I was pulling into a Dunkin' Donuts drive thru and the horn started beeping, because the cancel spring for the turn signal switch broke and fell into the column. People must have been thinking "Dang, he must need coffee baaad!!" laugh

Lol, that's pretty funny stuff! I'd just unplug the horn. And the airbags won't go off if the battery is disconnected, which it should be before messing with anything electrical anyways.

They will go off, dissconncet the + for 2 min then the - and wait 20 min before working on it, to disable the airbag
