I've presented my KR issues before: had spikes of 4-5 degrees with: Intense PCM, Wizaired cold air intake, and 180 t-stat, on 94 oct.

Since then I've gotten rid of the Intense PCM because of starting issues. And about the same time, I'm throwin 89 in, with my stock PCM.

So yesterday I was watching my scan-gauge for KR and Ign advance, and it was goin nuts!
If I'm going 65mph and accelerate moderately, without shifting out of OD, I'll get a few degrees. If I'm at 70-75 and accerlating lightly, I will see at least 5 degrees, and moderately I'll get 10 degrees. Moderate-heavy accel at 80-85 and I'll have 20 degrees. Set the cruise for 90 with no accel and It'll jump around .5 - 3 degrees.
Slight accel up a hill at 30-35 mph will even pull a few degrees.

I had a slight KR problem before, but this seems out of control.

AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

And as expected, timing will go way down when it's finding knock. According to my reading, with 20 degrees of KR, it will pull timing back enough to loose 40 horsepower.

Yes, I know get the u-bend done, I will be. But that can't possibly fix that much KR, can it? And a mostly stock vehicle shouldn't have that much. There are no DTC's coming up.

Any ideas please!

Well, we can rule out the intense PCM. It probably helped it.

Based on this, my guess is a fuel problem. This may seem to be a "throw money at the situation" deal but I recommend changing the fuel filter to reduce restriction.
Next, which may not help much, is to do a pressurized fuel injection cleaning.

Bill,

If you haven't been doing any PM, I would tackle that first....
Plugs
Wires
Possible coil packs(pending on condition of terminals)
O2 Sensor

Are you sure your car is running at 180*?
Is your IAT sensor reading properly?
Running too hot can pull timing.

That's all I got.

Later now,
Clint

Could it be false knock?

I'm wondering about the false knock.
I've got a fuel filter ready to go in. I've ran fuel injector cleaner, but probably need to get it professionally done.
IAT reads normal. Engine temp is always 184 cruising, and doesnt jump much.
Those are the values from the scangauge.
The gauge is definetly not messed up because I can feel the loss of power when it pulls timing.

I'm planning on getting a DHP power tuner to go with my ASS M90 kit. Thing is, I've sort of had this problem all along, with or without the Ipcm, it's just much worse now.

If you have no overheating issues, I can't imagine that it's KR. Sounds a lot like false knock.

If I'm correct, there are a couple knock sensors. Pull them out one at a time and see if it goes away.

What other readings seem odd when it is at KR? More data may help.

A/R, Temp, e.t.c.

Agreed that it could be false KR. A code should have been generated if it was bad though. Still, suggest trying Bryan's idea.

TastyBake, like most things on newer cars, a light doesn't throw unless the part it totally broken or it'll throw and 'idiot' light after it's too late. If the part is just going bad, it usually won't throw a light.
