I'm torn guys... Do I drop an L67 + 4T65e-HD in my current car (1997 GP SE, 140,xxx on engine) or buy a GTP? I really want to have a 2dr, just because since I started driving I've had sedans, (although my old car couldn't compare to the GP) so that's one thing, but I really want an L67... however that may come about... check this car out, found it on Autotrader, and it's really close to me... asking price $7300 and it's exactly what I want... Also, I bought my car for a grand, and obviously I can sell it for more than that... so if I sell it, that's basically free $$... ahhh! Help, I need opinions! 2000 GTP - Autotrader

I'd save the $7300 and turbo your car instead.

That GTP that's for sale is really nice shape, I drove by and looked at it today. Called the owner and she (surprise!!) told me it had been very regularly maintained, and she had just had a new tranny put in... I was glad to hear her say that, since those are our car's weak links!
I'm not quite ready to sell my car though if that's what I end up doing... my back bumper is being painted tonight/tommorow, and I need to add exhaust (I'm trying to up the value some!)
Last time I checked, book value on my car is $4200. I hope I can get $5000 with rims, GT effects, and exhaust... you guys think $5k is doable??

Modified cars are always a toss-up (from the potential buyer's point of view). The buyer never knows really, how well the parts are put together, what they used, prior history of the car if you're a driveway mechanic. So basically, good luck.

Yup. Like Igor said, you may be better off de-modding. Sometimes. I say go for the GTP.

Mostly though, I haven't modded... I have a 180* T-stat, and soon exhaust. No engine mods... and what I hope is that the rims up the "coolness" factor of the car, and maybe some other teenage punk will buy it for them... who knows. But that is a good point. I thought about modding my SE perf-wise, but decided against it...
And if nothing else, I need to get a stock catback so both holes in my new GT bumper are filled!

That GTP is identical to the '99 I just bought in Vancouver, BC for $9000 CDN with 60,000 miles, and that was a good deal for around here. Sounds like a bargain if it has a new tranny and so long as it has zero rust. The GTP will always be the more sought after model in the long run.

If you are going to sell the car do not put the exhaust on it, Unless it will be very quiet, like stock. Modding a car doesnt usually up the value in a buyers eyes

Well I'll put in my 02 cents,it depends on what you want out of your car ,it would be cheaper to mod your car and make it as fast and modded as you like, but if it your only dayly driver expect a lot of down time and you will not recover most of your invested money whereas if you buy a GTP you have a quick car right out of the box,the advantage about modding your current ride is you can search out used parts and do it as you can afford it ,but the GTP car payments will come every month ,so look at your situation and decide which is your best option,a little food for thought it will take about 1k to make that N/A 3.8 perform like the GTP .Chico.

If I can sell my car for 4500 even, and I could probably talk down the GTP owner a few hundred, say under 7k, that's financing only $2500... who knows, I could make a $20 monthly payment for the next 10 yrs!
