Yea I'm seriousely thnking about selling my GP for a Scion xB. It would take me a long time to have enough to buy an xB, but I think it would be a good idea. Since the gas prices just keep going up, and I get 17 MPG in my GP and i do alot of highway driving, its killing paying for my own gas.

Reasons i want to sell the GP:
1)Gas prices and MPG
2)The xB is cheap and easy to mantain plus it has a huge aftermarket for it so it wont be plain and boring 4 banger.
3)The cooling system in the GP is gumed up by the previouse owner, and from what I've been told by 2 diffrent guys who work my my car at 2 diffrent shops I don't want to deal with that.
4)The interior is kinda worn.
5)the xB would have a warranty and it would only be a year old since I'd be getting one thats 2004.
6)The xB blows my car outta the water on MPG. I'd be going from 17 maybe 20 to 33.

Reasons to keep the GP:
1)Its a very sexy car crazy .
4)I'd have a bigger engine then a 4 banger and plenty of tourqe and power.
5)I don't see many 2dr GTP's around were I live so the GP I have is kinda rare over here I guess.

Those are my reasons why I should sell, or keep the GP. If i choose to sell then I'd be saving for about 9 months to buy the xB. Were as for 9 months i could have the GP fixed and running fine in that time. But i would still be gettin worse MPG then the xB. Gas is at $2.70 over here and its deffinatly not going down anytime soon. So I would be saving alot on gas in that time. To me it sounds like a good investment (i know alot of yall might thing diffrently) but thats just what I think. The only 4 banger I would get would be the xB because of its cheap dependablity and huge afetrmarket, plus its not a ford focuse haha. I don't want to even get a civic or an integra because i think theres to many of them. I know theres alot of xB's out there also but I just like the xB's better then the civics and what not. Just wanted to hear what yall guys and gals had to say about this idea of mine. I'm leaving to Amsterdamn today and I wont be back till the 29th so I probably wont be able to post anything about this for a while. I'm going to see my girl friend who just moved there because her dad got a raise (he works for Shell) so they moved to Amsterdamn. Lots of fun for me for the next 12 days haha. Can't wait to get back and hear what yall have to say haha.

Thanks
Chris

Don't forget, added to number 2, people will make fun of you no matter how customized it is. Seriously, an xB? They're like driving a riced out, minature UPS truck.

If your MPG is much below 30, you're doing something wrong, modded the hell out of it, need a tune up, or can't keep your foot off the happy pedal.

My GTP gets me 22 around town and 34 on the highway. It's all in the upkeep and keeping your foot off the happy pedal.

I get about 14 mpg avg in the city and the low 20s on the highway. Maybe it's time for a tune-up, but then again I have almost 108,000 on the engine now...

The milage on the engine shouldn't have that big of an impact. I know I have a 3100, but the 3800s get good milage as well. Definately do all the tuneup options zuul mentioned. You also might want to try an injector cleaner too, just to make sure everything is on the up and up.

Just don't do like this one guy who bought a Tornado at work the other day ($70~) wanting the guaranteed 1-2mpg. Hopefully I saved a fellow worker from the same extortion, telling them to get a K&N instead along with a tuneup.

I agree with everybody else, my GTP gets between 32 and 38 on the highway, depending on if it's loaded. I average 34 loaded with approx 800 lbs of DJ equipment cruising down I70 at 73MPH. If you are gettin gthat bad of mileage, something (filter) is definately plugged up, and to replace it with a Scion eek eek eek PLEASE don't.... save yourself the embarrassment and ride a Schwinn instead (or even a Huffy)!!!!

There are products in the auto parts store that will allow you to rid your radiator of the gunk. When I had clean my sensor, the low coolant light came back on about a month later so I bought the the super concentrated bottle drained the radiator, followed the instructions on the bottle and it hasn't come back on.

Honestly though, after getting rid of your GP for the four banger I believe down the road you'd regret it and feel you've taken a huge step down.

Jack, I think your talking about the Prestone stuff, something like Super Flush or something like that. You can also do a psuedo-power flush with a water hose if you buy a kit. Whatever you do, don't put the Dexcool back in it. Go with the green stuff or Peak.

Yeah, xB's are just hilarious. All they're good for is laughing at them. Looks like a cracker box on 14 inch rims. Absolutely RIDICULOUS. GPs Rule.

I've gotten used to the xB's look. If I were you, I would test drive it first. You may like the look and the gas mileage claims but best see if you actually like the car itself. Its no fun Paying x amount per monthly for 4-5 years for car you don't really like.

It does hurts some folks to pay near $3.00 per gallon. At that point, looks of the car start to go down in priority. I'd check to see if the GP is up to snuff mechanically, first. Its cheaper to fix it. If so and you like the xB, go ahead and get it.

Third option is to just get an older 4 banger and keep the GTP. Total Insurance cost may go down also.

Im going to be keeping my GTP, all the while slowly swapping the transmission in my old turbo Saturn. I need to get an upgraded LSD for that poor little thing. It was quick as hell too. I bet it could keep up with a stock GTP or a modded GT. Not off the line, but definetely on the highway =). Not to mention I could get 30mpg easy with the saturn, as long as I stayed out of boost for the most part. My GTP gets like 16 because I like the happy pedal too much, lol.

In my GTP, I was getting about 25 on the highway.

I don't think that's bad at all. My G/F's Saturn only gets 30 and my motorcycle only gets 32 (pretty crappy).

Well I'm finaly back. Had a blast! Amsterdamn was great although i only saw it for one day haha. Europe is awsome anwyays.

Ok back to the topic. I don't know if I wanna keep the car. I left for 12 days, and i get back and theres more wrong with the car now. When you take a turn the steering wheel has what i think to be like a skip in the turn and you can feel it everytime you take a turn. I know the car needs suspension pretty bad, and it has a bunch of little things wrong with it that i am afraid will keep coming. I can't afford a car like that. As much as i do think this car is sexy. I dont want a car that im gonna have to fix every other week. The xB was (in my opinion) a good idea haha, but it was just an opinion i guess. I dont really know what to get but i want something like the xB. Good on gas, 5 speed, small, easy to maintain, i want it to be new as in 2000 or up, and i want it to have alot of aftermarket. Im picky but hey its my car and hopefully for a long time. No hondas, or fords, sry i just dont like those brands (picky again.) I wouldnt mind some ideas from yall but its hard to find a car like that that i would want.

Last night the prices of fule skyrocketed by my house from the usual 2.50 a gallon to 2.79. Then in a matter of one hour it was changed to 3.10 a gallon. I cant deal with my gasmilage and those prices. I really need to either get my car to get the gasmilage its supposed to or sell it and buy something else. Oh and speaking of buying something else. I know i was talking about gettin an xb but now ive been looking and the chevy cobalt ls looks pretty noice. Think if i do sell i might pick one of those up

Well my car is going up on Autotrader.com today. I'm gonna sell it and im not sure exactly what to get next but its gonna be somthing that gets better gas milage. I'll post the link to the Autotrader page once my dad puts it on there when i get home and take pics of it. I really wish i could keep this car but its not gettin the gasmilage i need. Im pretty sure its because i just drive it to fast and i don't think i can easy up on the throttle to get better gasmilage. Its to much fun to hear the supercharger whine haha cheers

My friend has one of those new Cobalts. An LS with the sport package. IMHO, it looks funky with four doors, and rightly so, since they probably had to cram in those extra two doors, with it being a sub-compact and all. She says it's pretty quick, probably because it's rather light; light enough to shake around if there's a steady crosswind. It's a nice looking car though, I do agree, especially in silver or blue.

It's just so tiny though. It's not very comfortable. lol I got spoiled with GP seats. Subcompacts make my life worthless. laugh

I'm with you Arc. My wife has a Honda, great gas mileage, good little car, but I am 6'1" and 240 lbs, kinda a little cramped in the front seats for me, I love the leather and the comfort of the GP

I just saw a 97 GTP down the street from me with like 125k miles, no mods, nothing. For $5400. I almost died of laughter. I guess Im spoiled, I got my car for 2500$ with 138k, but I needed to change the cat, big deal. 5400$ for a car with 125k miles is unbelieveable. Especially when KBB is like 4795 on them. Oh and this one didnt even have leather! I was appauled

Its a 1993 VW Corrado SLC. 2.8 liter inline 6 engine, FWD with an LSD stock. Most badass car I've owned and destroyed.

No that was my last car i had it in my sig but i didnt like the pic so i took it out. Heres a pic of my car right after i got it painted and picked it up. about a month later i flipped it in a ditch being stupid and my tires (or lack there of) sucked. after all i put into that car that was about a little over 6000 down the drain all in one turn. Wish i still had that car. I've thought about selling the GP and going back and gettin another one of those but the upkeep alone is way to much on those thnigs. but if you can afford it its one hell of a sexy car to have. First one in my family to flip over a car whoohoo crazy .

So i stopped by a shop yesterday (that i trust) and i asked the guy how much a radiator flush, tune up, and new kyb struts would cost. he remembered me so i told me that a radiator flush wont clean out how messed up that thing is. i belived him because even my friends who have just looked at it for a second and everyone says that its really messed up inside. so he said i should replace the radiator. so hes gonna give me a price for new radiator, tune up, and new struts all around and if its not horribly expensive im keeping my car. Because im not gonna get my moneys worth outta it selling it while the gas prices are so high. so i figured id keep it get it running right and wait and then sell it for more later. that is if i even wanna sell it later.

Ok so i just got off the phone with the guy at the shop and he gave me a price. He said it would be $1500 for everything, thats tune up (new pcv valve, clean the throttle body, plugs and wires, air filter fuel filter, brand new radiator, and coolants, plus the kyb struts. Sounds like a good price to me now i just need some more money. cheers

Excellent choice, Para. Im glad you decided to keep the GP after all. 1500 seems a bit high, but then again I had to pay a mechanic 467$ to find out I needed a new EGR and plugs. I had massive engine problems too, which turned out to be a clogged cat. Be careful of mechanics, theyre all out there to make money(I dont mean to be offensive to mechanics, but Ive had bad luck with them in the past).

I know I've had some horrible time with mechanics. With my first car the vw i bought perfromance mtor mounts for it and a new tranny mount. I ask the mechanic (who i thought was a good guy) to change the motor mounts and tranny mount with the one i had bought (the performance mounts). i left the car there with him and about 800 dollars later he replaced the mounts. then i had to have him do another mount because i found one of the mounts in my car that he had supposedly forgot to put in. i thought that was a little iffy. and it costed me another 100 dollars or so. After the wreck in my car it was totaled and i had to pull the engine to sell it and when we removed the motor mounts well guess what... THEY WERE REPLACED WITH STOCK MOUNTS. i was pissed as hell cus i had just lost like over 1400 dollars worth of mounts there and i never told him anything about it but next time i take any of my cars there which doubt i even will im gonna make sure he does it right and stand there and watch him do it. This guy im taking my car to right now i get it all tuned up and what not has the lowest price and best work outta the people i take my car to. hes really close to my house also. Champions Auto Care i think its called. its around 1438 but plus tax its gonna be about 1500.

Lets have a rundown of part cost:
PCV: $3
Plugs: $12-40
Wires: $15-50
Air filter: $12
Fuel Filter: $6
Coolant: $20
Radiator: $300 (lifetime warr)
KYB: Wasn't it around $140~ for the ClubGP deal?

So, that's around $512-575 depending on what plugs and wires you choose. He's making quite a bit of profit on labor. If you've got a ratchet set, you can do all of that yourself (with a spring compressor/jack for the struts). Just be aware of what your getting.

The only mechanic I take my stuff to has a garage not even 2 miles down the road and we know his whole family (mom, dad, sister, etc.). He's even fixed some things and not charged a dime.

I was thinking about doing it myself, but I wouldn't really trust it cus i really suck at cars, and I don't know much about them. I can ask my bro to help me he knows alot he even put my cold air intake on for me but hes busy with his own stuff with his GN. So I'm just gonna send it to the shop. It costs more but 1500 compared to the 1900 I got anywere else is a good price to me so yea, and this way I'll know that its done right oor atleast I'll hope its done right hah thumbsup

Is there any certain kind of Thermostat that i should get if i wanted to change mine to a lower temp. one? I figured i would either ask the guy at the shop im sending my car to or I would just pick one up and then ask him to install it. Just wanted to know if there was a good brand i should get or does it even matter? Thanks

No. I say it's more of a personal choice. Stant has one. I have Failsafe. As long as it's 180* or 160*, you'll be good to go. laugh

dont forget the hoses, a lot of people change all fluids and never change a hose and sometimes they pay dearly with an overheated engine.

I'd go buy some Top engine cleaner at a GM dealership, it's kind of pricey, but you'll be surprised at how much crap blows out of your exhaust when you use it.

Just have them look over the lines, don't go and replace them if you don't have to cause chances are they'll have to custom bend them.

So i got a call today from the shop were my cars at. They said my tirerod was bent because of a previouse accident done to the right rear wheel. I thought something was up because since i bought the car the right rear wheel was chrome and the others werent. i figured he got into a wreck or hit a poll or a curb and messed up the rim. Now i know what happened. The mechanic told me it didnt look that bad though. Hope i dont find anything else like this.

Anyone have a diagram on how the coolant recovery bottle goes in from thrasher? I've had it for a while now and i havent put it in and my brother (how installed the bottle for me) put in some bottle from a civic or something as a short term replacement untill i get it in. I tried to put it in myself with my brother and a few of his friends but we didnt get it. If someone could post a pic of how they got theirs in or of some nice easy instructions that would be awsome.

Thanks
Chris
