I was just curious what the actual differences in my S.E and the G.T? My S.E has 3800 series 2 don't know about the tranny. Is it just cosmectics or is there more to it than that?

I thought that some SE's actually came as a 4 cylinder and the one exaust system. Really that's all I knew maybe some didn't come with all the power options and I know I see most with Hub-Caps

tsk tsk, no four-bangers in the 97-03 GP family. The SE was the exterior body trim, less options available, and possibly? a weaker tranny. Otherwise - you could get the 3100 engine, or the 3800 series 2 engine, under the hood. Honestly, I'd think an SE with the 3800 would make a nice sleeper with the right mods, because to other GPers they'd be thinking "Ha, look at that SE trying to race me! With his puny 3.1L"

My "lil baby" SE came bone-stock -- so I had the single-outlet catback cut out and replaced with the stock catback from a GTP, total cost for me was only $80 including parts and labor. I've also got the rear bumper cover from a GTP that I'm cleaning up/touching up to replace the SE stock rear. Soon my SE really will stand for "special edition" Although I've toyed around with the idea of a custom badge, along the lines of "STP" or "GE" or the ill-fated "SEX" (as in GTX, but for SE heh)

SE's have the 3100 series v6 instead of the 3800 series v6, I dunno if theres a tranny diff. Looks a bit different and yea less options.

Just to throw out a question, but are there any handling differences between the SE and GT?

the dif between the 3800 se and the 3800 gt was the the dual exhaust and dif options in the interier and the "body kit" they put on it. but the 3100 comes with 180hp and the gt has 200hp but i have no idea bout the tranny and the handlin

Logic states that there shouldn't be any difference in the handling - but could be wrong? I've got a buick stb for the back and another stb (the "fancy" kind) for the front on the way, so that should stabilize my ride... and the shocks, struts, etc. should all be the same as the GT, correct?

Doesn't the 97 SE have a weaker tranny or something? The 4T60E instead of the 4T65E or somethin like that?
