My SE came with 4 wh disc brakes and 16" wheels and on the sticker was listed as "wide-track" package, but that could've just been a generic term used by dealership to try and sell car.
More than a few people have asked me why I got the SE and not a GT or GTP -- when I was shopping around for a car I was looking at pontiacs and chevys, but I have a friend who works at a large honda dealership and he found a 2002 pontiac grand prix SE on their lot that was being sold for $8999, originally $11999 but reduced because it'd sat on the lot for five months with no interest - mind you this was in mid-2003, so the car was barely a year old, just had high miles (28k) but the price was unbelievable so I jumped on it.

My S.E has 4 wheel disc leather steering wheel ect. But I would like to know if it has the weaker tranny? If so would the G.T.P tranny bolt in snd be compatible with the computer or am I going to have to replace the computer? eek

The SE model came with the 4T60E tranny....mine did with the 3100.

The 97 GT with the 3800 has the same...a 4T60E tranny. Then from 98 and up, the GT came with the 4T60E non HD. I do believe...someone correct me if I am wrong.

And I do believe you will have to replace the computer. I am doing an engine swap soon, and will have to change the comupter...

The Wide Track was a marketing ploy. It originated back in the 60s. The Pontiac versions of GMs line pushed the wheels out and marketed it as Wide Track. In 97 Pontiac brought the idea back for marketing. Iirc. the 96 GP actually had a wider track then the 97s. Go figure.
