I was wondering if anyone has ever tried to remove tinting from the rear window. It is definitely aftermarket, poorly done, and put on over the rear defroster wires. I was hoping for any advice on how to get it off without destroying the rear defroster wires.

I did on an older car but it was almost falling off on its own.

seemed like a razor blade, heat gun and some time is all it took..... lots of time....

Nice find arrow! I really like the back tint but .. i don't know if its just mine but, looking out of it from the rear-view mirror, does the vision seem blurred?

Tint over time can become blurry and also fade and turn different colors. A good idea is to remove it if it starts blurring up or anything like that. I can't stand seeing cars with crappy tint jobs or faded tint.

I can't stand the ones where the tint turns purple.

I was going to have a guy do mine.
Depends on the tint specialist, but this guy said he can do it 99% of the time without hurting the defrost lines.

I'd remove it and get some new tint put on there.

I was just thinking... I have never used the rear defroster. I've always seen it as an object to worry about with my tint, but it really wouldn't matter to me.

The reason that MOST, and remember I said MOST, tint turns blue or purple is that a vast majority of folks out there use Windex or any other ammonia/ammonium based window cleaner. Not only do professionals use Windex, et al., on tint to remove it, it also tends to discolor the tint.

Moral of the story: use isopropyl alcohol without dyes or fragrances, the cleaners that SafeLite uses, water, or just a dry and soft cloth or paper towel.

USE NO AMMONIA ON TINT!!!

If you plan on getting tint installed on your vehicle's windows any time soon, use something pure like Ivory. Use distilled water. Use a lint-free towel. Use a new, clean razor. Using ammonia on your windows will leave a residue that is really hard to get rid of, even for those professional shops. Often, it is recommended to clean your windows 2-3 times before trying to install tint or turning the vehicle in to the shop of your choice.

+1 isopropyl alchohol. Garage kept also make a big difference in the life of tint, I've had the same solarguard tint on my windows since 04 and its flawless.
