Hey guys I just bought a 1997 Grand Prix GT coupe yesterday and the SES light was on so I took it to autozone and had it scanned and here are the codes it came up with

PO753 - Short to Ground or open circuit for Shift Solenoid "A"

PO740 - A malfunction in the electrical circuit for the Torque converter clutch

PO102 - The mass air flow input is lower than expected for the current engine operating conditions

Any help with what I need to do to fix these codes would be greatly appreciated, I am more of a mechanical person and this electrical stuff confuses the heck out of me.

Sounds like a bad MAF sensor.

I heard that when people install a PCM, it can cause to throw that code. Does it have an aftermarket PCM? If so, then check the connectors.

The PCM is stock I assume, is there anyway to make sure of that? Also will the MAF off of a 1995 Park Avenue be the same as my 97? My grandfather has a junked park avenue that I can try the MAF off of if it is the same?

Probably. You need to make sure its the 3.8 series II. If its not series II, then its probably a different sensor.

When you turn your key off, with the engine at operating temp, does the fan continue to run?
If so, you have an aftermarket PCM, if not then you are OEM.

Ok it is OEM then, I will check the engine in the park aveunue but I think it is series II.

Also the SES light went off and was off all day today and then came back on as I left work about an hour ago, what would cause that? The guy at autozone said that all three codes could be caused by a bad negative battery cable but that didn't sound right to me so I figured I would get some opinions.

Also the buttons on the radio don't work but the steering wheel controls do what could be causeing this? Is it related to the SES light?

Thanks for all your help so far, man I hate all this electrical crap it is just over my head.

Make sure all your battery connections are tight and clear of corrosion. Remember our electrical systems are very touchy.

Yeah the battery connections look good, where are some more places that the electrical system may be shorting out?
