Tranny fluid dripping all over the pan. Turns out to be a leaking axel seal. Thought it was the gasket. Dealer fixed it. Wonder what could've caused it.

I do like the car very much. However, I do have a few issues. My complaints about it are the shitty milage, lack of power, and the monsoon stereo sucks. My 03 got 27+ mpg. The 04 gets 20. The 03 did sub 15 sec qtr miles before any mods; the 04 may be just under 16 sec if I'm lucky. And the Monsoon stereo is just aweful; starts distorting at half power. The Bose could go to the max with the bass all the way up. The headlight issue is actually funny to me. I brought my 03 in 5 different times just because of the headlights. They were absolutly useless, wouldn't shine on the street, were uneven, and the bright shined strait up mad . The 04's lights do shake, and people still flash me their brights because they think I'm flashing them, BUT, holy cow, I can see at night now kooky . I'm not going to fix them because I'm too paranoid that they won't work right afterwards.
What I like: the handling is phenominal, as well as the brakes. The looks (the outside more than inside). Fold down rear seats are great; the 03 didn't have them. XM stereo is very cool. The tap shift is a neat toy although I hardly ever use it.

Yes. That's very impressive for a stock gt. Maybe I spoke too soon. What mods are you running?

To put it bluntly, my car is as slow as molasses off the line and from a roll. Maybe I'm looking at it through the windshield of my 03 which was like a rocket, even stock. The 03 was Vette fast after mods 13.2@107. The 04 is not anywhere close to that. For example: My five year old son, who weighs 63 lbs, has a habit of moving himself to just behind the center console when I'm driving. When I tell him to sit back and put his seatbelt on, he doesn't always move quick enough for me, so I would floor it(in the 03), and he was instantly and with force, planted in the back where he belongs eek . I could not physically push him back as strong.

JackO I found that even with my CPU upgrade on my 04 it was lacking somewhere... I think it is just a matter of time before someone figures out what GM did to "kill" the power on these cars.

They really did do something to kill the power, but there are people on the other board that are running very decent times with these cars and mods. I won't be modding for a while until I'm sure I won't break anything. I am a little disappointed that since 97, GM has not increased the acceleration of this car at all. Car mags don't even road test the GP. The only one from 97-03 was back in 97 where the GTP ran a 14.99. The write ups on the 04 CompG where only able to get a flat 15. Grant it the 04's handle and break miles over the previous years', but it should also accelerate better too. Every other import does so why not the GP.

I can't think of a reason why you are getting such slow times in your 04s compared to the 03s. Makes no sense.

The 04 GTPs are running 17 inch wheels that'll sap some power. The GTPs have a 2.93 rear and the Comp Gs have the 3.29 rear. The stock PCMs are torque limiting to save the trannys. The new motors still only have 280 foot pounds of torque anyways. That's your accelleration power not the hp. Plus the 04s are about 100 pounds heavier.

A lot of owners are having their PCMs reprogrammed with good results.
