Why is it that companies like Chrysler and Toyota have dealer installed and waranteed performance mods and GM doesn't? For $1600 you can have Dodge upgrade your Neon to run low 13's and for a little more get into the 12's. 300hp is not hard to make with the GP, but GM will not do it for you let alone warantee it. Why??

Jack - I feel you on this. Ford will warranty the peformance mods as long as it comes from their Ford Racing catalog and their mechanics do the work. If you bolt your own supercharger on there, they don't even want to touch your car if it has an engine problem.

In a way, I can't blame them for not wanting to subject themselves to warranty work if a guy is going to take his car to the track and thrash it hard for timeslips or beat the hell out of the engine, suspension and brakes on a roadcourse.

While they say it doesnt void the warranty I know for a fact that Dodge if they suspect it will void a warranty. Oh and that 1600 dollars + slicks will get you well into teh 12's

That's my point. GM needs a performance division. Some will say SLP, but it's not the same. Most of the parts you want don't come from SLP.

GM has not ever really been as "performance" as Dodge and Ford.

I guess GM figures the Vette, Z28, Trans Am, Now the GTO are all the performance they need.

I mean just look back.... The new Silverado SS was supposed to be this mean machine.. but instead they made it a slow Club Cab. Granted it has AWD and room for the family but it will not stand a chance against a Lightning or a SRT-10 Truck.

Maybe it is due to their "luck" remember the SYCLONE and TYPOON they had a lot of problems with those trucks. And usually when GM makes a performance vehicle it is EXPENSIVE! Like the Grand National and the Firehawks.

But I am with you...they need more of a performance division.

As for the Neon -- they can keep their Neons -- Take it from some one who has owned one..the 20K they are asking for the SRT-4 is rediculous! That car is not worth 12K let alone 20K I do not care how fast it is. It is still just a 12K (at most) Neon.

And think how the SRT-10 guys feel right now...
Originally that Pickup was to run a High 12 factory. Now it has been rated at a high 13!

$45000!

Should run 12s. But it is about the hipe  not the end unit.

Well the SRT-10 is capable of 12's but has a traction problem. I would honestly rather spend a 20 k on a neon than 30k for a brand new GTP. However with the massive rebates on the GTP I would still buy it over the NEON. But coming from someone that has road in one the ability to make it quicker faster the NEON is well worth the money. It is not just a motor swap on it also has revised suspension and is not even badged as a neon (althout it is).

Holy crap. What are you saying man? I re-read your post three times and everyone's entitled to their opion. I would not have bought a neon over my GP. Not even when I was 18. I wouldn't have turned one down if it was given to me though. It would've made a pretty cool gift for going to college.

You must not have understood my post -- A NEON dude, go drive one.. like a aluminum can with wheels... road noise, rattle trap, etc.... just cause they can sink 8-10K into the Suspension and motor does not make it worth anywhere near 20K was my point.

The GP however -- a real CPU, a real ride, a real steel cage - AWE man now you got me all miffed
no no

could be worse guys, you could have a Mitsu Evo, a car they tout as a performance race rally car out of the box and then get warranty blacklisted for driving it in such a manner when it blows up.

Best thing about Ford (I know, it's a surprise that one exists): The Roush Mustang is fully backed by the original Ford Warranty. That's why it is surprising that you don't see as many Roushs and you do Saleens. Roush has over 300 changed components and the Ford warranty, but the Saleen has less than 100 changed components and no Ford warranty. Yet Saleen is more popular.
