Is it a short duration or the whole time the engine is running?

I suspect it's your fuel pump.

The one on my truck you can hear from about 10 feet away while the truck is idling.

Maybe your power steering fluid is low? Just a thought.

Mine makes a terrible whinnning noise to. It turned out to be the A/C blower. Took it in and was told GM is aware of the problem, but since it works they won't replace it. Nice way to keep customers happy.

Some things to check if it is the A/C:

Compressor Growl/Whine
Noise may be herd up too 2200 rpm
Check Attachment bolts are tight
check A/c line routing around brake booster
Check A/C line retainer that is attached to left strut tower
CHeck routining of tranny shift cable and A/C line near the high side gauge port
(should be no contact)

Check routing of compressor inlet pipe above receiver dehydrator
(AGAIN NO CONTACT with dehydrator)
CHeck that Rubber gromet around A/C compressor inlet pipeis properly positioned in the braket

Check condenser inlet pipe routinglook for hood release cable contact.

05 and later has inertia pully, if previous repair replaced it it may not have one, install A/c clutch assembly P/N 89018605
