i7 is basically just the Brand name of a type of processor. There are different core speeds within the Intel i7 family. Like back in the 90s when Intel came out with Pentium or Pentium II...there were lots of different speeds within those names.

lol Laptop stuff? Your talking about desktop processors dude. Its not just based on core speeds because to be honest you have so much room with overclocking that it doesn't matter.

Ok like an i7 850 at retail if you can still find that old models is oh around $200 the lowest usually found is the 920 for around $300. Now they for like 930 950 then the i7 975 goes for an avg of $1000 and the 980 goes $1100 now this is all on avg ive seen cheaper for retail. Through my whole sale guy I grabbed a 975 for $780 a few months ago.

I thought that was weird when I googled "i7" and they said desktop processors...but I haven't been following CPU specs in years...

It's pretty tough to overclock a laptop, isn't it? You can't really do much cooling modification.

Cool thing about i7's is they stay pretty cool.
Your deff right though its plain stupid to think you can cool it in a laptop. I mean the heatsink that comes with sux in a desktop and its pretty beefy. I always end up running a V8 or a tuniq tower for air applications. So I really want to see how they will cool it without a rly high cfm fan and a wide heat sink to keep the lap top somewhat thin. Plus idk of any motherboards that will fit in a laptop with an i7 since most have massive northbridge heat sinks again idk how they can thin that out and still cool it in a laptop.

I wanna see how hes going to build such a crazy rig in a laptop especially for that price...

Check out the Asus G73 series. i7+ ATI 5870 mobility, the top single mobile GPU out there. It's about $1,500 or so very good specs.

Check it out.
