Ok like an i7 850 at retail if you can still find that old models is oh around $200 the lowest usually found is the 920 for around $300. Now they for like 930 950 then the i7 975 goes for an avg of $1000 and the 980 goes $1100 now this is all on avg ive seen cheaper for retail. Through my whole sale guy I grabbed a 975 for $780 a few months ago.
I thought that was weird when I googled "i7" and they said desktop processors...but I haven't been following CPU specs in years...
It's pretty tough to overclock a laptop, isn't it? You can't really do much cooling modification.
