So I want to hook my computer up to an external monitor, a tv or my 52" Samsung. The Samsung has a VGA port, so no prob there. I also want a connector to use rca cables. Found this: VGA SVGA to S-Video 3 RCA This will allow me to use a 20" tv in my view in the computer room. Now I bought a 50' SVGA cable m/f to reach to my 52" Samsung. What I will also need is a splitter one vga to two vga, this will allow me to use my monitor and view on external tv, I think. But I don't think I can switch it, so I will be seeing same thing as monitor. In my editing program I can view on external monitor, which I want so I can see how things look on a tv. And the splitter won't let me switch the viewing, you get that? So I may need to get dual port vga installed on my computer then I guess. I probably also need f/f vga converters, which I can pick up easily. I have a 9 pin serial port, but my computer maker said I can't use that for external monitor...why? So any solutions folks? Thanks

No, svideo is there to provide better video quality if you have the ports to connect it. You can just run the rca's provided. I am trying sooo many things to get this damn project to work. It is becoming a PITA.

rca and s-video is going to turn the quality to shit. you won't be able to read the time or anything...okay for watching movies but thats about it.

You don't want to use a cable splitter with VGA. It will kill the signal. What you need is a video card that gives you those specific outputs.

X2 Also, you can not do your normal computing on it as it will be hella blurry. movies and video files will look great, but overall useage will suck.

x3!
Using a TV in place of a monitor is generally a no-no unless your computer and TV were both specificallt designed for such uses.
Also, trying to view something from your computer on say a TV and a monitor is going to beat the heck out of your video card and power supply.
If you try running both, they will both get dim and your computer will start to complain.

Well I just picked up a e-Geforce 6200 graphics card, DVI VGA and Svideo ports. 256 mb I am figuring out how to get this working with the DVI VGA and svideo. I don't know if I need to uninstall other vga port to get these to work.
I alos bought a svideo to rca video adapter. Freakin $23.42 at radio shack and it look slike a little plastic object! WTF

Why RCA? go with S-video, its better. also, make sure your settings on your computer are set to dual monitor and that your TV is set to primary.

Well after about 4 hours, 4 phone calls, frustration and a broken tv set, I finally got it all hooked up. The installation was a hassle. I called the company 4 times to figure it out and stil no go. I finally got into my BIOS and disabled the default VGA and setup the PCI port. Then I was on my way. Then I got out of the attic my little POS 20" for viewing. I also couldn't figure out how to run this dual setup. So I had to call back again to figure it out. Right click desktop, and there it is Nvidia control panel, which has everything!! OMG they don't tell you this info anywhere, and no paper in the box. So they guy taught me that then I had to figure out on my own how to get it to show up. So I tested the small tv after cursing at it and found out it won't change channels or show a dispay on a cable line. So I brought over the big heavy old 32" and it displayed my desktop, Woohooo! So now I am ready, and waitng for my 50' VGA cable so I can put it on my 52" Samsung in my room! I also can take back the $24 part I bought to convert svideo to rca! Pics to come soon.

I do not beleive lonezergling that if you have a good enough pc your power supply and video card will start to wanna go...simply because the TV doesn't hook up to your computer for power, neither does your monitor. Now If this video card you have is an older style one I could maybe see some possible issues but just by looking at that small factor form case I would have to say that you probably have a nice setup in there. I know my 8800 has 2 spots for DVI but I also notice an S Video back there i may try it on my pc and see how that goes.
