ok so i went to the fridge and i wondered something as i was standing there staring at the contents of the fridge, why does katchup seperate? like why do you allways have to shake it before useing or you get that nasty watery junk before the good stuff

It's likely some sort of preservative or oil that is less viscous than the rest and hence floats at the top after it seperates.

I always shake the mustard prior to squirting. I can't stand it when just water comes out.

You're supposed to shake ketchup and mustard well before you use them, for the same reason you have to refrigerate after opening...'cuz it says so on the bottle! devilgrin
