my girlfriends dodge neon its a 99, the first gen model. the transmission is vacuum controlled i beleive. when its cold, you have to rev it high then let go of the throttle or keep it revved high to get it to switch gears. after about 15 min of driving it will go away. anything i should check for? this has been happening for a long time but we finally have the money to fix it.

I agree with muldiven, my mother had a purple 97 neon and it had a electical fire and it only had 50,xxx miles on it when she had it in 99 and traded in for a taurus in 2000 and she's been okay ever since other than the recent problem with the rack and pinion.

I've known 4 people that owned Neons. Not a single one made it past 60k miles with the original tranny.

Dodge has terrible trannys.
