I was talking to my buddy, who meets many customers as he is an credit employee at Home Depot, (I use to work there). Anyways, he was talking to this retired engineer who has some mercury car with 325k miles on it getting 41mpgs and it runs strong still. He says he adds Lucas oil additive and he puts in 2oz. of acetone to every 10gals of fuel he puts in. He gets the acetone at the $1 store.
I did a quick search and came up with this info.

As with anything like this, it works... but don't overdo it.

I was thinking only 2oz. wouldn't make it in the tank. It would evaporate or just not make it. So I don't know. Waiting to let my buddy try it on his car first. I still need brakes for my car to even take for a drive.

I know a guy that overdid the acetone fuel thing in a 340 duster...it made mad power for a short time and would blow green flame from the exhaust at WOT...then it burnt a hole in a piston.

I just did 20-30 minutes of reading blogs, studies, and a mythbusters episode about acetone. It seems to me that it may help at first as it cleans injectors, valves, pistons, sensors etc, but eventually if you stop using it, your MPG will probably stay the same as if you were using it, but after an increase. I just bought a used GP with many miles and a full warranty. My car gets BAD MPG and I have tried everything. I got 24 on last highway trip with no A/C, 35 PSI in tires, perfect alignment, minimal weight and driving 70(the posted limit). My wifes W-body get 28-30 in these same conditions. I am going to give it a try. I'll keep you posted.

Well, the main reason I would keep using it is the octane boost.

I own a GT, and gas is pretty good here so I don't need any more than 87. Call me cheap, but I refuse to buy a car than requires premium fuel. I even built my chevelle's motor with 9.5 to 1 compression so it run's on 87 just fine.

My GP requires it and my Stratus can use it from the factory thanks to two different timing maps built into the ECU.

Rook does your Stratus have the 2.7 or the 3.0?

...and yeah, the green flame out the tailpipes was badazz, but not enough for rebuild frown

It's the 3.0.

after reading the article and thinking a bit, an easy way to add this stuff would be to put it in a bottle of injection cleaner or octane booster, the pour it in, you will have a better chance of all of it getting in there versus just pouring it in, OR if you fill your car up regular intervals as i do, you can add it at the pump then proceed to fill up, this is considering your car will hold the same amount of fuel as last time if not a bit more or less, but i am DEFINITELY going to give this a try as i have acetone at my disposal

I'm on my third tank with acetone. I am using 1 oz per 5 gallons. The first tankful I used 3 oz with the full 18 gallon tank. I filled up with 11 gallons and I added 2 oz, last night I filled 15 gallons so I added 3 oz. My car gets about 20 mpg average, so it is easy to figure out. I pour the acetone into a lucas fuel additive bottle at homne and the dump it in just before I fill up. My MPG is as follows.
1st tank 19
2nd tank 20
3rd tank 20.5
Don't read to much into these figures as the weather is warming up here, so teh car may be getting out of "warm up mode" sooner
