Due to the crime sharply on the rise in my city, I've been wanting to buy a handgun for a little while. I'll get my CHL in a month or so, after going to the range a few times to get used to it.

I went expecting to have to wait a few days to get it after filling out the paper work, but I'm now the proud owner of a .40 Beretta 96.

What surprised me is that is is set up exactly like the airsoft 92FS that I've owned for two or three years. So after getting the Beretta home, I promptly took it apart & put it back together, with no problems, without ever looking at any instructions, in 40 seconds or so. hammer

A fine handgun.

Keep it clean and care for it and it will have your back when you need it most.

a milspec Beretta? oh, well. Since you wont be puttin that thing through it's paces, hopefully you wont have to worry about weapon failure.

With that weapon, be sure to tear the mags apart and oil the follower spring, follower, and inside walls of the mag.

Next time we meet up, hopefully it'll be at a house so we can all compare hardware. I'll teach you everything I know about them handguns.

If you dont mind me prying, how much you spend for that weapon?

$55X after tax. Little cheaper than I expected, actually.

Nah, even buying it from Beretta is $550 before shipping or anything.

I was hoping to get the A1 model, with the rail system on it, but they didn't carry it, and that weapon just called out to me for some reason. lol

Very Nice lookin' gun there Ace!!! I'm still searchin' for that "right one" still, I will post pics as soon as I get my gun.

I just sent in my paper-work today for my CCL. I will have my permit in hand in 6-8 weeks.

man, that's quick. I REALLY suggest you blow several hundred dollars on ammo before getting your CWL.

Oh believe me, I will!!! I just wanted to get the license out of the way. Plus, to be legal (transportation) taking it to the range don't you have to have a permit.

From one of your other posts, it seems like you guys have to pass a test to recieve your CCL where your located, well CWL in your case.

no, just to transport, you dont need a license. What I did was left the weapon in the trunk and the ammo in the back seat. Or we made one vehicle the weapon-hauler, one the ammo-hauler, and one the target-hauler.

Most states, indeed all the states I've been in, keep the weapon and ammo seperate, and you're straight.

In most states, personally-owned firearms may be transported legally if they are unloaded, cased, and locked in the automobile trunk.

Nice purchase. I was never a fan of the trigger that the 92 had. If you're happy with it, thats all that matters.

Keep looking. If you're anything like me, you'll find one that just calls you. This wasn't the exact weapon I was looking for, but after finding & holding it, I couldn't walk out without it. lol

As for the CHL, maybe getting so used to the weapon isn't as important as you think. Here are the range qualification requirements in Texas:

Quote:
A total of 50 rounds are fired during the course of the qualification test. A score of 70%, or 175 points of a possible 250, is required to pass. The target used is a TX-PT which is a human-shaped silhouette target measuring 45 by 24 inches. All shooting is from the ready position, which means the gun is already in your hands and aimed in. No holster shooting or shooting from concealed is required.

Course of Fire:

3 yard line - 20 shots:

1 shot in 2 seconds, 5 times
2 shots in 3 seconds, 5 times
5 shots in 10 seconds, once

7 yard line - 20 shots:

5 shots in 10 seconds, once
1 shot in 3 seconds, 5 times
2 shots in 4 seconds, once
3 shots in 6 seconds, once
5 shots in 15 seconds, once

15 yard line - 10 shots:

2 shots in 6 seconds, once
3 shots in 9 seconds, once
5 shots in 15 seconds, once
source
That's surprisingly easy. You can pass before you even get to the 15 yard line.

And thanks for all the congrats, guys. laugh

Just got back from the range with my new friend, and I'm even more in love now than I was before. It shoots like a dream. Easy to hold & to fire. Not too much oomph to be overwhelming, but definitely enough so that I feel confident if I ever have to defend myself with it.

I did mediocre in accuracy, but that's because I was more having fun than aiming. For example, for my last 12 rounds, I put 3 in one mag & 9 in the other. Fired three off quick at the target, dropped the mag & slipped the other in, then unloaded the other 9 as fast as I could. From about 10 yards, they all hit the guy in the stomach. Not bad, since I wasn't really aim. lol

from 10 years out? that is a massive amount of sniper-ability.

Glad you like your new weapon.

Uh, no. Gun either says on me, or stays with a lock on it, and the key stays on me. If someone breaks into my house, they will be getting shot. Not the other way around. End of story.
