so what's the difference between a T/A and a Firebird? is it just the engine size???
and what's the best engine to put into them? is it an LS1 or an LS7 or what?

If you know what the difference between the Camaro and the Z28 is, then you know the difference between the Firebird and T/A.
Camaro/Firebird is more/less the base model while the Z28/TA is the performance models.

Same thing, it's all packages and appearance. WS6 was the suspension package on the 'bird, you can have a TransAM WS6 for instance. To add further confusion, CompGs come with the WS6 package. laugh

SS was the performance model of the Camaro. Z28 is a product code of the nicer V8 model I think, SS is above that.

Never understood the Formula 'bird... other than it had a sleek, plain front.

In the scheme of things Base model firebird, formula and then TA.

Starting in 2000 all firebirds complied with CAs new LEV (low emmissions vehicle) rules. Two rear child seat tether anchors were added on all models. the throttle linkage on all V-8 powerd birds was revised. both Formula dn TA models equipped with the WS6 ram air package sported new 17 in allow wheels

Firebird coupe-
standard coupe equipment included extensive acoustical insulation dual front airbags air conditioning a black fixed mast antenna at right rear the brake transmission shift interlock safety feature power four wheel disc brakes with 4 wheel abs rpo L36 200hp v6, cruise control electric reare and side window defoggers solar raty tinted glasse etc...
Formula coupe- in addition to the coupe or in place of power antenna power door locks delco 500 watt peak power monsoon anti theft lock 10 speaker system teather wrapped wheel p245/50/zr16 all weather tires

TA in additon to audible theft deterrent remote keyless entry and sixway power seat

engine options
in 01 LS1 standard on formula and TA
prior to that LT1

T/As equipped with Pontiac's exclusive WS6 Ram Air Perfromance and Handling package benefited from functional air scoops, ram air inductaion dual outlet exhaust power steerign cooler and tuned suspension for maximum handling performance. 9x17 inch wheels.

So in GP terms the regular firebird is like an SE the Formula is like the GT and the T/A is like the GTP.

LT1/LS1 are your stand small block V8.

LS7 is a 7.0L hand-built engine that is made in Wixom. It's the Z06 engine. No other car has one unless somebody bought just the motor and put it in another car themselves.

It's my favorite engine lol. Well, next to a 572...
