ok here is the scoop. if you have surface rust you need to sand it to get it off, OR metal treat it to keep it from getting worse, but i dont think you want to do metal treating, so some things you will need are
Wax and greese remover
Sandpaper 320g,240g
DA sander and sanding blocks
1/4 3M blue fine line tape
2rolls of 3/4 or 1 1/2 masking tape 2 rolls should give you plenty
masking paper
Red Scotch brite
glazing putty,spreaders,hardeners,mixing bord, (maybe)
Self etch primer
primer surfacer
primer sealer (maybe)
Color
Clear
the process find the areas of rust that you want to get rid of, if they are close to a pannel that has no rust mask off the good pannel to save yourself the work of having to repaint that one as well, start with 320 on a DA and sand the areas that have the rust, try to sand them smooth, after you have gotten off all of the rust depending on how bad it is you will have to A) use glazing putty and add it over the metal, make shure there is no paint under this area were your adding the putty after that has setup get your sanding block with 240g and shape the putty then move to your 320 on a block and keep sanding to make shure its all smooth and leval and it dosnt wave at you, use your red scotch brite over the surounding area mask off your body lines or the paint diffrence after that take some self etch primer and add that over the spots, making shure you have masked off the rest of the car use your wax and greese remover and wipe it all down ( use this before you ever paint) and self etch the metal 2 coats is plenty, then once that has dried then take your primer surfacer and spray that over the area, after that is dry use your 320 on a hand block and sand that again making shure its smooth, clean again and then do your color and clear, jermey i think you have my number if you start doing this and need help give me a call. or shoot me a PM
