So, let me see if I got this right. Out of the probably 500,000+ F-150's produced in the last few years (not counting F-250's, Expeditions, & Navigators), the company is only facing 16 lawsuits, which probably means that, out of all those vehicles sold, only 16 people had serious issues with this door latch. I guarauntee those 16 lawsuits will cost a hell of a lot less than the estimated $527,000,000 recall. I'd also say that the VAST, VAST majority of people who own these vehicles are perfectly safe...I'd be willing to take my chances with a door latch that only fails in 16 of >500,000 vehicles.
Just so you know, something like 500,000 Pintos were built, and I believe only 27 actually blew up. The media helped blow that one way out of proportion. The media does stuff like that, back in the early 1980's, a story run on "60 Minutes" damn near ran Audi bankrupt (sudden acceleration issue, later proven false), even today Audi's sales are not as high as they were before that report...the A4 was what really saved them from going out of buisness.

I think that to say that Ford sucks because they didn`t recall these vehicles is a little bias, I had my share of bad experiences with GM so I think that all these companies are in it to make money, if the cost of settling 16 law suit doesn`t surpass the cost of recalling 700,000 cars then more than likely they won`t recall it, I don`t care what the name of the company is.. (haven`t you guys seen the airplane scene on the movie fight club?) AxBxC=X not doing a recall because 16 people were dumb enough to be leaning from their armrest without a seat belt on is (as bad as it sounds) good business for the automaker..not my opinion just the facts

Of course only a couple pintos blew up. It was just the fact that Ford ignored safety warnings so they could build a $2,000 car and it ended up costing them over $300 million dollars.

0.000032 % Failure of the door latch? Hardly worth recalling. Thats like sayins out of all the times that you will have to 'drop the kids off at the pool' in your life you will probably not make it a couple times. If you catch my drift. as for automakers my 99 gt had 3 steering racks replaced and pumps. before searching for my 04 gt i looks at 8 used gts gtps and of those 8 3 had the same steering rack WHINE. so i don't want to k now the percentage of those that may have failed or became a problem for people. Bet it was like .000332 % So long as its spring and this rain will let up I will put the hammer down

I still say them knowing a problem and ignoring it is EXTREMELY BAD! I mean look at the tire ordeal -- how many people DIED? And both Ford and Firestone knew about the problem. This is the same instance.. They knew it was a problem people are now dead and all I hear is
"well it is cheaper than a recall"
Pathetic that they can put a $$ amount on life!

Jizz you really have to watch fight club,,, it will give you an understanding of how car makers think...besides the fact that it is a hell of a movie

Good movie. But I think I'll have to watch it again to find the connection to this.

Yes I have seen Fight Club - Saw it on the big screen and own it on DVD.. yes I understand the point that it is cheaper to pay out a few million vs a lot more to do a recall... but my point was if it was your wife or your child or your parents that where caught in the middle of a corp battle of
"we knew but it is cheaper to pay out for the death of a few than to do a recall"
My point is the Government should hammer those bastards to the ground.. they knew it was unsafe and now people are dead.. I tell you what if it was someone in my family they better be a lot more worried about me than my lawyer coming after them!
