Don't think anyone has said anything about this yet... Check out http://www.pontiac.com and take a look at the new G5 for 2007. Its basically a Cobalt. 2.2 and 2.4L ecotec engines, the latter making 173HP. Available in 5-speed. Starting at $14999 What do you think?

It is the repacement...I had a training class at the assembly plant in lordstown OH. Rumor has it that it could poosibly get the same motor as the GXP Solsitce. The cool thing is standard power windows and doors. Also, the first 5000 get free 365 downloads and one year free XM.

If they made it a few inches wider I think it would look sweet. classic... the 260hp gxp motor in this light car would be awesome. but it seems the standard solstice motor is the same as the better version G5... 2.4 ecotec around 175hp?

That is a rebadged cobalt. Embarrasing. I was hoping that Pontiac/GM could come up with something better

yea, Not a fan of the cobalt, or the G5. Cheap looking, just like the sunfire. Not worthy of the Performance division of GM, called Pontiac, in my opinion.

This is the thing to keep in mind...for the class that the car is in, check out some of the competion corolla, focus, civic, jetta. The cobalt/G5 is by far the nicest looking and best performing out of all the cars in its class. In fact Motor Trend liked the cobalt which is funny since it seems all they support is Jap stuff. How many other cars can you name that have 140hp with standard power windows and door locks, CD, Air, Low maint components for under $15000. Quite frankly the car exceds many of the industry standards for entry level compact car segment. Like the way it looks or not, GM has made leaps forward in leading the segment. As far as performance wait, you will see a car worthy of the name Pontiac. When I first read about the car I too was bummed by no high performance car but when I heard they put a 170hp GT version with a possible 260hp GXP. What more do you want from a company that brough you the cavailer/sunfire the "steel death trap". These cars are the building blocks for the sub-compact segment that GM has neglected for so long and is finally doing something about.

G5 but no SUpercharged version like the SS Cobalt. Maybe a G5 GXP with the blower next year.
I am waiting for the HHR SS!

The Cobalt and G5 are somewhat bland. Lightyears ahead of their previous j-body cars though.
