Well as i was leaving work, i got a phone call. My very good friend Mike and his cousin Joe were in a car accident. I was given no details. All i knew is that he was driving his Trans Am WS6 down 44th street and crashed. I drove down to see everything, 44th street is completely blocked off, cops and firefighters everywhere. So i knew atleast one of them had passed. I was scared the second i seen the police line tape. I called some more friends, they all came down. Well Mike was traveling down 44th street, at a high rate of speed, easily 120 the police said. He cliped his mirror on a semi he was trying to pass and looked back to see what he hit and then lost controll, the back end kicked out, he jumped a curb, went straight for a bilbord sign. He went undernieth the sign ripping the top of the car off, killing Mike instantly. Joe walked away without a scratch. Today we lost a very good friend, he was like a brother to me,always there if i needed anything, he was one of my good friends who helped me build my gtp, he was part of my local car club, and he will be truley missed, we are all taking the news hard, its definatly been a long day. I just cant believe this has happend. I just got home from his family's house, they are all taking it VERY hard, he even has a 5 month old son. His fiance is very hurt, she wont even talk to anyone. So this comming weekend is going to be the funeral most likely, and we are asking all club members to be there. We want to have a cruise leaving the funeral of all club members cars. Some members are even pulling their cars out of storage for this. Mike was a very good friend of mine, and i will truely miss him.

This has definatly opened up my eyes wide about speed. Yes i love to be fast. But from now on, i keep it at the track. Speed has done nothing but take people away from me, so i cannot stress this enough, SLOW DOWN. keep speed at the track.

I know exactly how this kind of thing goes...I had a couple guys I knew well in my youth that died in car related incidents and the hurt runs deep and onlythen do you see how senseless a loss it was. I even had an accident myself powersliding my 67 Dodge but my front wheel dropped of the edge of the pavement and sent the car sailing into the ditch. The impact sent my cousin who was in the passenger seat slamming against the windshield. By God's mercy wasnt seriously injured but he did have to wear a neckbrace for few weeks from whiplash. Unfortunately he was so pissed at me over the incident that we barely ever spoken again. I dodged a bullet that day as well as endangering another life. I still love my car but I've found I can enjoy it within reasonable limits. I have no burning desire to find out if my speed limiter works. I came close at Texas Motor Speedway and that was good enough for me.

I'm glad you better slow down. See... speed is not very cool at highway no matter what if he has cool looking firebird. I'm very sorry about your friend loss. I know some of you have fast cars but take it to track which it is safe than put other people on risk.

Hopefully you too 02GTP20 who got ticket in 110 mph and 140 mph during night time.

I'm not create any problem. It is just speed kill. That's all.

The news is always bad about facts... They report anything just to be the "first" ones on the scene....

Sorry about your loss, this is the type of things that hurts real bad. This is the reason I don't speed no more because I don't want to end up like this.

Hey tbat, I was reading what you wrote and was wondering have you ever talk to that guy again.

Just saw the link. Wow, that's nut. 100 mph on busy street. :rolleyes: I see he is 22 years old. Too young to die... There are some harsh comments about "he deserve it" from this link.

sorry for your loss, if i lived close I sure would be there, different things in life make you think of different things, I never thought of anything when i used to race people, either in an old beater or my old 350 hp 72 chev pu or in my gp, until 1 year and 2 months ago when my daughter was born, now i wear my seatbelt, and only kick it in the ass, for a short time to pass, we all need to keep the high speeds to the race track, god bless him and his family

I would like to know if a second car was involved, or if he was doing 100+ for no reason.

Sorry for your loss. This is a prime example as to why you have to drive carefully. I may be kind of an aggressive driver, but I'm still careful. I don't do anything stupid when there is anything or anyone else on the road or that I might hit.

Sorry for your loss.

Speed/recklessness is the leading cause in Motorcycle deaths this year for the Navy. The Navy is cracking down hard on sportbike riders. the CNO has ordered that sailors/marines who are interested in buying a scoot must convince their chain of command that they no the risks and will minimize said risk before they can purchase a scoot. This is because just this year alone more sailors were killed being stupid on scoots then were killed in OIF and OEF combined.

Once again sorry for your loss but the higher power needed your freind more then you. I'm sure the man has some good work for your friend.

CNO? And for those civilians on the board:

OEF= Operation: Enduring Freedom
OIF= Operation: Iraqi Freedom

OEF does refer to Afghanistan, but also to all other Anti-Terror operations world-wide, such as Phillipines.

OIF refers to Anti-Terror, Anti-Insurgency, and Rebuilding operations in Iraq.

Sorry for your loss

it doesnt ever seem quite fair that people make mistakes every day, and that someone elses mistake could so greatly affect the lives of people around them.
