see, i would keep the gp, but i owe $3200 on it. I wouldnt be able to afford the GTO plus the GP. I dont know, i mean i just want something different. Ive done all i can to this car in a matter of 2 years...lol i think thats pretty good considering i only REALLY started modding it in february...lol

If i do trade the gp in, i will swap hoods with alex and i owe corey a spoiler and if he wants the lip he can have it.

Im going to look at a cheaper 04 gto a4 on saturday. its 10995 with 81k. Its been abused a little bit on the inside, but with the proper care it can be fixed.

You know I want them. If and when the time comes, we can talk. But for now, make the decision that you want.

That's the kinda feeling I have. Now I would love to have a truck, trade in the the GP or just keep it as a DD. But when I rationalize, i'm like, I don't want a car payment, a truck is going to be more expensive, and right now i'm saving up for a house. So i'm basically sitting idle and just saving money. But I do want something new (car/truck) sooooooo bad, just a change I guess.

ya, idk ive been in the wbody for the last 4 years now and I just want a change of scenary. The only thing holding me back is the cost of the insurance a month...lol

Plus the fact that i will end up owing for another 5 years...grr

There is a guy i work with that just emailed me and asked if i would do a trade with him. He has a 1998 2 dr gp gt 71k on it, doesnt owe anything on the car. I would trade him my car for his plus he would take over payment on my car. So, essentially i would be getting close to, if not, more thn the 6500 i want for the car. This way I can then take his car and go trade it in and use whatever the trade value is towards the purchase of my GTO. I think im going to wait to see what he has to say on thursday at work.

sounds like a good idea. you should be able to sell it privately for more than what the dealer would give you, though. swap with your neighbor, sell the car privately, and use it as a downpayment.

Please say it ain't so. Just sober up and say you're keeping the gp.

I think we all go thru the feeling that we'd like to have that V8 power, the snarling exhaust, the manual shifter and the rear wheel drive...and I can see how the GTO seems kind of like a GP that has been heavily infused with dose of Corvette DNA.
All appealing aspects to be sure, but is it something you'll be happy you did 6 months or a year from now. I personally would stray away from a performance car with 81k miles that looks like it needs care.

I refer back to the sage Vulcan wisdom of Mr Spock when he handed over his betrothed wife -to-be to her lover...
"Stan...she is yours...but after a time you may find that wanting is not so leasing a thing as having. It is not logical, but it is often true."

I'm trying to dog your decision Tim, all I know is I am so very thankful that my wife chimes in with dispassionate view when it comes to me and cars. I find it tempers my decision making quite a bit.
Just dont jump for the simple sake of a change...if your gonna plunk down your hard earned cash and sign up for payments, make sure it counts for something you truly want.

ya, im not trading it for that one with 81k on it. The salesman was a complete a-hole. I asked to test drive it and he said i needed to sign some stuff saying if i drive it i will talk numbers. I said hell no and i said i wanna drive the car first to see if its what i like. He kept telling me i couldnt do it, so i was walking away saying "You lost a potential customer because you are hiding something in not letting me test drive the car." LOL there was a couple walking onto the lot the same time i said that, they turned to me and walked back to their car. So i said "THERE ARE YOU HAPPY, YOU LOST 2 POTENTIAL SALES NOW!!!"

He goes, im sure youll find something better....(sarcastically of course) lmao!!

It is true, i am getting rid of the GP, lol just not sure WHAT car yet. I drove my friends Audi A4 1.8T and im liking that as well. I also drove my friends Audi S4 bi-turboed and im liking that as well...hmmmm decisions....lol

I'm sure whatever you choose you will enjoy. Just take a step out from the situation and look at it in the long run, will it benefit you in any way?

well im more looking at a 1998-2004 Audi S4 Bi turboed. The one has 154,000 on it for $5,900 and my friend with the s4 said it should last another 100,000. Just gotta make sure the timing chain and other key items have been taken care of. I am also looking at Audizine.com (their forum) to see what they have for sale.

I have pretty much given up on trying to buy a GTO, due to the fact that they are hard to come by(in my price range) near me. Plus i dont want to pay $256/month for insurance.

The Audi is considered a family sedan and not a sports car, so im safe in that aspect.

prices for parts for those cars are out of sight and not so easy to come by.

My brither bought a turbo Passat wagon last year and raved about how long it would go and what a great value it was. A few repairs later he has been crying the blues...especially his $300 fuel injector...needs a power steering pump now...I'm scared to ask how much.

I dont know if there is a good owner base out there with plenty of support knowledge...or maybe even a salvage kind of guy like Ed Morad who specializes in the VW/Audi/Porsche family of cars.

Best of luck on your quest...and I'm sorry I might nor get to see the car at Laps for Charity or other event someday.
