while I'm glad to see the Vette stacking up and beating out other "supercars" I still have to admit its pretty amazing that the GT-R delivers that kind of stout performance from a twin turbo 3.8 V6...given the Vette is packing 6.2L of supercharged grunt it should win a bigger margin.

Either way, both are potent cars to say the least.

I'm surprised the ZR-1 beat the GT-R in the slalom.

GM could have a killer on it's hands if it took the suspension set up from the ZR-1 and dropped it in the ZO6. Keep in mind the biggest complaint in the past about the ZO6 was the harsh ride for a daily driver. Where the new ZR1 has a very compliant ride. Granted it may take a few sales away from the ZR1 but at the same time from a price point more people will buy an $80k car over a six figuered price tag.

i would think paying for an $100k car the factory could at least get close to their numbers the ZR1 was rated at 638hp 604lb/ft but on the dyno only had 505hp 494lb/ft that is a huge you can say that its drive train loss all you want but to lose over 100hp and 100lb/ft from the flywheel to the wheels is beyond reasonable if that's the case the cheapest hp per price mod you could do would be a new drive shaft.

loss of 100hp going to the wheels is not unusual with a RWD car, especially when it has to spin such massive sized wheels/tires. The Vette already uses an enclosed driveshaft so I dont think that will solve any issue at all. The transaxle and halfshafts are more likey the culprit. Anytime you have to turn your power delivery 90degrees there will be healthy loss.

You also have to remember the factory test numbers come from a test cell and not an actual engine in car. While they do account for accessory drives the state of tune for a particular car, plus the condtions under which it is tested (i.e. temp, humidity, fuel quality) can all be variable factors with lot of impact, especially on a supercharged engine.

All that aside, to roll into a dyno and put 500 ponies on the ground is stout for ANY car...exotics at twice the price included.

When your talking big numbers like the ZR1 it's not surprising to see a 500 whp. Look at the L67. On an engine dyno it makes 240hp. Now put it on a chassis dyno and it drops to roughly 200.

When you do the math it's pretty even. The L67's numbers come out to a 17% loss in the GP and the LS9s loss in the ZR1 is 21%

The keyboard warrior knows more than the top engineers in GM. RWD setups typically lose 15%-25% from the crank to the wheels. If it's rated at 638h.p. 21% is 133.98h.p lost. That sounds about right to me. 638-133.98=504.02h.p. which is on par with the 15-25%.

To add to that a couple of years ago GM SAE certifies all their HP ratings. Unlike in the past when dyno numbers were done with no accessories and headers or intentionally lied about to get past insurance agencies etc.

The numbers to question are Nissan's with the GTR being "under rated" at the crank. Nissan claims 480 hp but when dyno'd it came in at 430. An unprecedented 11% loss.

I agree, I was expecting a much more resounding victory for the vette, the GT-R came pretty close for being so underpowered in comparison.
