Ok my computer has alot of space on it and you know runs pretty quick. I know for sure there is stuff on here that I can not locate. So I was wondering how I could kind of start all over? You know with nothing on the hard drive. Can anyone help me out? cheers

Well. The easiest if a complete format using the Windows Setup Disc. Depending on your operating system, it might be easiest to Boot off the Windows Disc (2000,XP) and then run setup. Make sure you delete the partition and create a new one. It will ask you to reformat your drive then. Pretty simple, just follow the steps. But read them carefully. If you don't delete the parition, you'll just end up with 2 Windows installations and everything still there.

But Be Aware.. You'll Lose Everything!!!! - I recommed before starting fresh, get all the latest drivers and such for your hardware onto a CD. You won't have interent Access till your NIC card is setup, and if you don't have the drivers, you wont' be able to set it up!

Cheers and Good Luck.

Pull the hard drive and hold it up to a huge magnet. Poof; everything is gone.

Backup your files and find your windows disk that came with the machine. No other way to do it.

Sounds pretty intense but shouldn't the drivers come on the Windows install disk?

you can always go to "control panel" and then to "add/remove programs" and take off most everything you dont want...then download yourself something like "spybot:search & destroy" which i added to remove adware and spyware...run that and then dump your cookie file (delete everything but the index, and the computer probably wont let you delete that anyway)...you'll most likely have to sign back in on any websites you frequent after you do this so make sure you have that info handy if you dont know it...then let your computer run a defrag of the harddrive and you should be set.

A buddy of mine has some detailed instructions for optimizing windows XP. I used it on both of my computers and I was very happy with it. It's written with novices in mind with step by step instructions.
