I do mutuals mostly, and stock in my company. As with all investments, very poorly. My 401k was down ~40% this past year. Employer match basically made it a wash, so I'm not too upset. It'll recover and I'll be in good shape.

My boss is outrage about his stocks. He wants to retire with 140K but he is down to 60k and he wants his corvette so bad but he has to wait until it gets back to 140k again.

How old is your boss and how long till he retires? For some one like me 35 the hit to account is but a temporary setback nothing to get overly concerned with at this time. Now if he needs the money in the near future well that's a whole nother story.

I'm watching my 401k go bye bye faster then I'm putting into it.... but I work for a stock broker... Sucks to see alot of people loose money, but hopefully in a year or so we can start to see some kind of rise again.

Thankfully I'm only 24, so by the time I'm ready to retire, it should be alot better.

Yeah, us young'ns will be fine, it's the people who are trying to retire now who are screwed. And the GM workers (like my dad) who now have worthless GM stock.

I haven't really looked into it at all. I would like to start investing while I'm still a teenager, but don't know the first thing about it.

I've been playing with these 3x levereaged ETF funds... they're basically like mutual funds but traded like stocks... I've been playing with inverse funds (basically like short-selling), so for instance if the banking sector goes down 5% one day, I will gain 15% that day. With the proper timing on daily trading, I've made a nice chunk in a short time. Making a killing on the market going down, offset my losses in mutual funds and a few company stocks.
check it out... FAS, FAZ, SKF, or search leveraged ETF's
