Well I finally mustered up the strength to tell you guys. Our five month old puppy died last night. We put her outside last night about an hour before we went to bed. And when we went to bring her in she was dead.

She was such a good pup. She was pretty smart and tried hard to please. When it was rest time she always had to be touching some one. Her ears were so expressive you could always tell what her mood/attention was toward by the way her ears would flop or point.

We talked about it and it's going to be a while before we get another pup.

I hope it wasn't a car or the pool. I feel ya Herc.
When I was in 9th grade, I went outside to feed my Boxer. Great dog, nearly as great as our first boxer that died from a disorder of hole in the heart. But this one I found dead under our boat. At 7am before going to school, it wasn't the best thing to happen. Not sure of the cause, but thought the dog ate a poisonous frog or lizard. We had two more after that, and those two turned out to be psychos.

Hope your kids are alright.

I feel for you Herc.
I've lost a few due to old age, but I did loose the best dog I've ever had due to unknown cause. One minute he was fine and the next minute he was hanging on to life. We rushed him to the vet's where he basically died in my arms. My hand was on his chest so I could feel his heart beat, he was gasping and trying his best to stay with us, then I felt his heart stop. The vet and her colleagues did everything they could. By the time it was over, there wasn't a dry eye in the room.

I think the only way to help you get over your loss is to find another puppy...Because if you keep going without a dog in the house it is just going to get worse and worse as the days go by...I think the sooner you get another puppy the sooner you will start to get past her(not saying that you want to get past Prada just saying it will help with the grievance time)

Well, I don't know the circumstances, but it could be worse. Someone I know was driving home late at night after work and accidentally ran over and killed his own dog.

I'm with 01, best way to get over a lost pet is to get another one. You could always get something like a cat that stays indoors. They're not really obedient or loyal, but they can make great friends as well... then again.

Sorry for your loss herc. I had a pet fish once and the fish did of unknown causes but I also think its best if you get another dog.

That is a pretty dog by the way, I see what you mean by you could tell the mood the dog was in by the ears, looks so happy.

try getting a border collie...I have a 2 1/2 year old border collie and he is the most obedient dog you can find....he plays and acts silly almost all the time but when he needs to, he is extremely well mannered and a VERY loving dog to be around...he too shows his emotions with his ears and i personally will never get another dog unless it is a border collie. Perfect house dog IMO....

sorry to hear the loss, Bob. That really hurts. This last dog of mine...we just couldnt keep her anymore. My first dog was put down because of hip displacia. Although I was 3000 miles away, it still hurt like she was in my own arms. Many condolences, Bob.

We're going to wait till after our vacation. We're thinking of a small dog that we won't have to worry about jumping the three foot wannabe fense.

I've seen dogs jump 6' high fences, and have friends that tell me their dog does it! Crazy
My 10 yr old miniture snauzer could clear a 3' ft fence, incredible.
