I have Xplod's all the way around in my car, except my 4" shelf speakers are Lightning audios, I have stock head unit and have more bass than 85% of people with dual 10" subs or single 12s, plus it sounds 150% better than stock, and I still have my stock headunit.
I have:
Sony Xplod door speakers (6.5")- recommend if its in your budget Sony Xplod 6x9's Lightning Audio 4" speakers- for 8 speaker system Stock Tweeters Stock Headunit
Altogether it sounds AmAzInG!!!!!

hold on like 10 sec
Okay:
I have a Panasonic CQ-C1401U Head unit that I bought last year for my truck and it never skipped when i jumped it, off roaded it, no problems what so ever. Paid $100 shipped for brand new from etronics.com
Its goin in my T/A since the one I have in there now skips when I slam gears ( and I effin slam 'em)
so I'll prolly sell the one in there for like $50 shipped, its a Pioneer something or other

Sony HU are alright, but they've never impressed me... ever!
Since adding the speakers, and having a factory CD Changer, I'm happy, actually tickled, at how it sounds, the changer is a nice conveinience, and steering wheel controls make it all the better, but its your money, do what you want. I recommend that Panasonic HU tho, best I've ever bought
Also they come with changer inputs, so you could add a changer later, I might know someone who has one, I'll see if they wish to part with it if your interested

I had some, and sold them for like 20 bucks. I now use kickers. I have installed some alpines and infinity speakers and must say that they are 1000x's better than the sony crap
