To those who have given the last full measure of devotion...who have paid the ultimate price of patriotism...to all who they have left behind...may their hearts be comforted this day while we live under the umbrella of freedom that they have provided for us. When enjoy the freedom of the press, the freedom of speech, the right to bear arms and above all that, the freedom of the pursuit of happiness, in whatever form that may be. Let us never forget that in our democracy we have the right to vote to elect those who will make the laws that we agree to live by, but it is the soldier who follows his orders...not just because he is told to but because he believes in an ideal...because he believes in a way of life that he will preserve at all cost...and he does so with body, soul and pride in something larger than himself...it is this sense of duty and heart that has bought and preserved every freedom we enjoy.
There are many monuments in Washington D.C. but if you ever go to any of the war memorials or Arlington cemetery, keep in mind that every name you see is someones child...someones parent...someones spouse...someones friend...their voices call out to us from the dust and the wind and say " Never forget us...we wanted to come home, but you still have a home because we did not...for you and for those we love, never let that be in vain."
God bless America, from sea to shining sea...and may our troops be back home soon.
