I was playing my PSP and the battery got low so I pluged the charger in. Normally the orange light comes on letting me know that the unit is charging. Well today the light did not come on and the unit wouldnt charge. I thought maybe it was a bad charger so I used my data cable to try charging it through there, which I have done before. No luck. The unit will not charge despite my methods of attempt.

I thought it might be the battery, but then why no orange light? I do not have a warrenty on it and I'm hoping I dont have to ship it off to be fixed at a wallet raping price, or have to buy a new/used one.

As a side note. I do take care of the PSP. I always put it back in the sleeve when I'm done and I only leave it on the charger until the unit is fully charged. Once it is charged I unplug it.

I'd try a new battery.

Check the contacts. Maybe theres some lint or something in the plug-in on the psp.

Ill bet its the BATT. The light will not come on if it cant charge, This may sound simple, but take the BATT out and re-seat it in again, see if that works first

I've taken the battery out many times, made sure that the terminals were clean and clear of debris. I also checked, as tech said to, the charging peg and that was clean too. I'm completely stumped by this one.

Sounds like a bad BATT to me. Try another one if you know anyone with a PSP to check it out, if that still doesnt fix it, looks like you may have to send it in and let Sony rape you

If you do have to send it back to Sony to be repaired, make note that it WILL come back with the latest OS installed (if you know why I said this, then you know to beware)

Buy a battery on eBay and see if that helps. That would be much cheaper than getting one direct from Sony. Man, this thread makes me miss my PSP!! I sold it to help finance the GT bumpers for my car... cheers

I could buy a battery from best buy, try it out, and if doesnt fix the problem I can return it no questions asked. I really dont think its the battery though, I'm going to take it over to Gamestop to see if they can help me out. Anyone know if best buy or circuit city do repairs on game systems?

OK, you said you were loading the new OS with the BATT low?!?! Thats what happened, when loading the PSP OS updates you HAVE to have a FULL BATT, and plugged into A/C power, otherwise it will "Brick" your PSP... So looks like you have to bend over and let sony give it to you...

The reason you would not want to upgrade is you cant run games off your memory card, going against pirecy...

I had a DS, waste of money. Graphics suck, does far less than the PSP and the games are weak at best. When Nintendo makes a portable that does music, video, photo, games and internet I'll look into giving them my money again. Until that day comes I'll limp along with my fabulous little problem child.
