--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

well i was cruisin down 6 mile by my (speed limit is 50) house going twards a friends house and i wanted to show my buddy how the esc can be turned off by holding the TCS button down.
i turn it off and figure ehh im only 4 miles away from my buddys house ill just leave it off..........big mistake
all if a sudden i see this dear runnning( full out frickin sprint) twards the road ( probly shoulda hit it, it had a nice rack on it lol) i lay on the horn and hit the breaks no good it keeps coming.
i swerved at the last min and started fighting the car to get it straight again. its whipped on me about 4 times.
finaly i lost it its just oversteered way to much
spun it across 5 lanes, no cars in sight!!!

so i did a 180* spin and drove away unscathed and missed the curb by inches

moral of the story.... keep the ESC on if you have it on a vehicle

Honking at a deer is the worst thing you could do. They just stop and stare to see what is making the noise. Same thing when hunting, when they first hear you they don't run, they stop and watch to see what made the sound before making a decision.

Whoa.

I remember doing a severe 270 spin across a few lanes. But it wasn't in this car. I'm happy I got ESC. I'd give the designer a hug.

Lesson to be learned: never swerve to avoid an animal, just hit it. It'll be far cheaper to repair the damage than to have your car totalled from going into the ditch/hitting a tree/rolling it from hitting the curb sideways, etc.

I've never heard of the GP having ESC... anyone have info on this?

Oh okay, had no idea what the BU was, I'm so used to dealing with acronyms I just ignore them (which is what that appeared to be). smile

Good to hear your ok. I just about got into a fender bender on Sunday. I was going straight with the right-a-way and this lady was turning across in front of me into a store parking lot. She used no turn signal. I was maybe doing 30-35 and watched as she tried to speed across right in front of me. I locked up the brakes pretty damn hard, chirped the tires and came to a complete stop, seriously at about 2 inches from her bumper/rear fender. She had 2 young kids in the car so when I got out I chose my words the best I could. But I was really pissed off.

...Thank god for those R1 Concept rotors, Hawk pads, and a good reaction/reflexes.

Dont know if this is the best advice when it comes to large animal such as a deer. I have had two encounters with deer and it was two of the worst repair bills I've ever had. These are large, stout animals in most cases and they can do some serious damage to your car. granted I do agree that trees and guardrails can deal out the ugly as well. So I would suggest the compromise of aiming for glancing blow to the animal if at all possible and hope he doesnt change course towards you.

Glad to here you and your ride came out unscathed...even if you did need to change your shorts afterwards. eek

lol I was thinking same thing about honk at deer. It is not going work if it is still running or stop to hear the noise. Good thing you don't have other cars around or you could serious hurt for doing stupid about turn the TCS button off. I have one but I never touch it.

lol, you try aiming for a glancing blow and let me know how it goes. wink Just saying, in the split second you have to decide between swerving to try and avoid it, versus just hitting it, you're better off keeping the car on the road. At least you still have a straight frame.

actually I would have to say my last deer encounter was exactly that. Granted this was early in the morning so the daylight coming on helped my visibility and bought me more time...but there were two deer and I aimed in between. I lost a rearview mirror and it dented up both doors on my side pretty badly...but I'll take that over a crushed front end and the risk of his big-hairy-antlered carcass coming thru my windshield (not for certain but a risk to be sure)

I live near Rt 34 and the Merritt Parkway, so there's always plenty of Bambis to avoid this time of year. All four of my cars have deer whistles hidden behind their grilles, and thankfully none of them have ever sported antlers as hood ornaments. lol

Never swerve, aim for the hind quarters.  Swerving leads to loss of control and usually the area the dear is in there is much more risk of personal injury from falling off cliffs, running into trees or hitting a ditch or berm and rolling the vehicle.  I have seen too many people seriously injured because of it.  If you stear for the hind quarters you main-tain control of the car and gives the animal a chance to get away and if it's too late it will be a glancing blow and will keep the animal out of the windshield which is where most of the personal injuries occur.  Your car will take major damage either way but the safety of the occupants is much more important.
