got a 70k miles motor from gtped, having it put in today. im pumped. thsi means i can start the breakdown of my original one, and with an extra block laying around now, i think i've been hit by a lethal dose of mod fever. im gonna shoot for like 400whp in my rebuild. all i need is the time and money.

400 whp is a VERY lofty goal... doable but you're gonna have to spend alot of money. I would start with 9.5:1 pistons & L32 rods, and XP or perhaps even XPZ cam, GenV M90, and you should be good to run around a 3.2" pulley.. along with all the supporting mods (headers, intake, cold plugs etc)

If you want the simplest path to 400 wheel horseys, buy a turbo kit.

400hp out of 231ci is going to take a serious build with either crazy comp. ratio or some serious boost .Chico.

im thinking along the lines of serious boost. like i posted before, im not in any kind of a rush on this build. im takin my time and want to do it right. i know thatll be a lot of $$, but that's why its gonna take a lot of time.

Better save some cash for a hi-performance tranny build too because you'll need it.Chico.

400hp is a lot of power, especially when you have front wheel drive.

Yes, that would be probably 500-550 hp at the crank. I've read that FWD automatic's can lose 25-30% of HP through the driveline.

not trying to rain on your parade cuz its your car and your dough...but I think it sounds great to say you want 400 ponies when in reality if you were able to drive the car making 300-320 you would probably think you were tied to a rocket sled...even at 300whp traction and tranny issues are gonna be huge...just check out some of the 1/4 mile times of some of the guys here who are nowhere near 400hp...I dont care what anyone says, a street car that runs in the 12s at the dragstrip is FAST...but like I said before it is your car and your goal...maybe your hunting for "king of the hill" on this board (boy would I like to see a meet drag match for that laugh ...when my GP becomes my second car instead of my daily driver I'm thinking strongly about going boosted myself but given the rising price of gas I'm sure I'll stick to a low key setup...that'll be plenty fast for me...good luck and happy HP hunting hammer thumbsup

i agree that it may wind up being a pipe dream, but great things dont happen if you dont set your goals high. ill probably run out of money to spend after 3xxhp.

Even then that would be sweeeet. I think a nice zzp turbo would be awesome. I was just reading about them and it makes me want to get one.

Best of luck, I hope it works out for ya. It sounds like a lot of fun.

Yeah, normally all cars experience ABOUT 25% HP loss through the tranny. Not sure what the loss ratio is for torque, but it would stand to reason it's very close to 25%.

That loss is not just for F/F cars. My buddy's 03 (?) Z06 is rated 405 HP at the crank. When he put his stock Z06 on the Dyno, he only got an adjusted 305 WHP. Seems the tranny is the major killer of horse and torque.

I wish you all the best luck in stalking 400 FWHP, I would love to see it done.
