So I'm 6'6"+ and I just booked a flight to NY, via Jetblue.They have seating chart where you can select your seat. There is 6-9 rows that are highlighted saying these seats off 38" legroom over the other which offer 34".
I usually try select aisle seat, since they have tons more leg room.
Well once you click on it, it gives a pop up block stating you must be this old and does this to sit in this seat. And off to the side it says $20.00USD
So an extra $20 for those seats.
Never been charged before, and I am not sure if any other airline is doing this.
But I need the extra leg room, especially if some jerk face wants to recline the seat in front of me.
I can't help my height, so how they charge more for this?
Can I bring it up some how and get $20 back?

Most those seats are small for a lady, let alone a man.
I can see charging for certain seats at 38", but charging for emergency exit seats since they are 38" too doesn't seem right.
If I get the seat, can I charge $20 to help people out during and emergency since that is my obligation to stay and help?

The airlines are hurting, we all know that. This was one way they could get a little extra cash. I would gladly pay $20 to make sure I had leg room. I would also pay $20 to not have some fatty next to me that spills 1/2 way into my seat. I also like the front row in bigger jets. They too have extra leg room just behind business or first class.

Wait until you check in and the charge $15 for your suitcase. Oh wait, that is Delta.

I've done carry on for the last five flights.
That is now getting rediculous, people bringing on car size suitcases now.
I am happy pay $20.00 but was wondering if this could be fought within law.

I'm 5'9". Sometimes, I get uncomfortable for not enough leg room. I will flying soon when I drop my car at FLIP's house next month for body work. It has been while that I haven't been on airport since 2003. I know they have TON change since 2001. At least you are not like 600-800 pounds person. My old co-worker who is 600 pounds. He is unhappy with airport seat. My response to him that. "That's suck". My real response that "dude just lose some weight!" but I don't want hurt his feeling. lol

my dad works for the FAA and i asked him.

since its an "option" to get the extra room then its legal as long as they dont make it a requirement that u get that seat.

for ex.
if your a fat persom say like 300-350 and they charged you a extra fee cause you weigh more than the other passengers but you still get a regular seat then its discrimination.

only if they make it a no choice option then its bad.

Airlines are charging for everything nowadays. I saw a story online about an airline (one of the smaller ones I hadn't heard of) charging a fee to purchase a ticket, regardless of how you pay for it. And most of the fees are hidden. I don't think it would be such a big deal if they didn't hide them from you.

It still sounds a bit discriminatory to me. If you told someone in a wheelchair that they could climb up into a bus, or "choose" to pay to use the lift, that would be discrimination. I don't see how this is different. On a bus they have special seating for the handicapped and if needed, regular passengers are required to make room. It should be the same way with these airline seats and tall people.

Being 6'6" isn't a handicap. Sorry.

If you don't like their pricing policies go to another airline.
