It's a sad day here in north Florida. Son and I have made a final decision that the time has come to part out our 89 Daytona Shelby. Won't be able to get it back on the road in the foreseeable future and can't stand to see it continue sitting here.

I had to do that with my 63 Nova. I feel your pain.

Will probably part it out unless the right offer comes for the complete car.

Tranny was grenaded. It's an A555 Gertrag 5 speed. There's also quite a bit of onderbody/carriage rust since it was originally an Ohio car.

thats a real shame, those were some cool cars in their day...a little ahead of their time IMO. Nobody gave a hoot about turbo 4s back then.

Hey, they're still cool TBat. Turbo 4s are quite the rage these days. You had to love Mopar, they'd stuff that little turbo 4 in anything you wanted, kcars(2, 4 door and station wagons) minivans and anything else that was fwd. They were quite cheap to mod also, and easily capable of embarrassing many V8's.

I know, I was a Mopar man for a long time...what I meant was when they came out a lot of people ignored them becuz they were turbo 4s...right before we got married my wife had a LeBaron T&C wagon (complete with all the plastic wood)...all in all the car was a POS but I used to laugh and tell her here was the heart of an athlete trapped in an old goats body...it would still accelerate like all hell but it shook and rattled so bad you were just waiting for body panels to start flying off. potent little engine for sure. The new PT Cruiser turbo shows where its heritage came from.

Yeah, really didn't matter what platform you got that turbo 4 in, most of the Mopars from that period did suffer from low quality materials and general build issues. They might shake, might rattle, but definitely went down the road pretty quick.

Smiling like the proverbial pig in !@#$. Found a guy local that has a tranny he'll sell me. Plans to part the Daytona have changed to install a new tranny and get her back on the road. I'll be getting rid of the Avenger, but seeing as how it has no turbo or supercharger, I won't really miss it. It's been a very good day.
