No one is going to be home tomorrow, friday, to offer a signature for this high $$ package that I am receiving. I called UPS up, and he said I would just have to call friday, or after the package has been attempted to been dropped off to figure out a time to pick it up at the UPS shipping quarters. What have you done?
I asked if I could have a neighbor do something or leave a note myself, but that wasn't acceptable. I just don't want to get screwed and have this package wander around or even back to where it came from.

I work with FedEx and UPS for a living.

You can sometimes leave a note and that can take the place of a signature, but it's really up to the driver.

For the most part, you are just out of luck. They will make 3 delivery attempts on 3 consecutive business days. So if you miss the first one, they'll leave a tag on your door. At that point, you can sign the door tag, authorizing them to leave it there (which is why many drivers take your handwritten note to begin with), or you can go pick it up at the UPS facility at the end of the day.

What's tough is that your package will be riding around on that truck through their whole delivery route, so you can only get it at the end of the day when the truck is back at the station, but before they close.

After three failed attempts, they will return it to the sender.

Leave a garage door cracked open enough to slip the package under. Write a note and tell the guy to slide it under the door.

I've picked up packages at the terminal that arrived on Friday but were scheduled for delivery on Monday.

It's either head it off early or wait until they try to drop it off the first time.

as opposed to your suggestion of just leaving it sitting there?

I think if your neighbor opens YOUR door to accept the package, it doesn't matter if it's their signature or yours. From what I understand the insured package has to have proof that it was recieved by SOMEBODY at that address.... Tell your neighbor to spend the day at your house.... smile

if they really want to break into the house, they will. If the package is in the garage or not.

they usually attempt delievery three times and on the third time you have to go and pick it up at the ups center.

Just like they said, you can leave a note at the door and tell them where to leave it at. I work at ups part since november.

they will attempt delivery, if no one home, they will leave a note on the door to call and schedule a time, or to goto the service location and just pick it up when you can. I've had to do that a few times.

UPS has an insane amount of terminals so a drive to pick the package up wouldnt be very far. I would just let them try to deliver it, if they dont leave it, pick it up later that night. I work for FedEx and people come in to pick stuff up all the time. They're in and out in under 10 mins.
