So I am about to purchase a 99 GT and have a list of projects for it already.

performance Mods:

#1 on the docket Swaybars and Strut Braces

#2 CAI or Ram Air

Aesthetic Mods:

#1 Random painted pieces

#2 Debadging

#3 Maybe Projector Headlights?

So I have been poking around for quite a while and have found a few mods that are quick and dirty but dont really have any benefits tied to them. the 1.9 rocker mod was handled in another thread.

Are there any quick and dirty mods that are worth doing that does not cost a crapload of money

Any cheap mods with noticeable results????

Also Are there any functional ram air systems out there????

I have been finding a lot of Foe hoods and CAI billed as ram air.

any systems that are true sealed ram air?

The ram-air is non-existent with these cars.

Do a cheap HAI and then some exhaust work.

Hot Air Intake. Basically it has no box. Just a cone.

Hot air intake, basically just a cone filter off of the throttle body. I have a WizAired which is a cold air intake with a box around the cone to isolate it from the engine's hot temperatures. Don't buy an intake off of eBay, buy yourself a big cone filter and some PVC tubing from Home Depot and build on yourself if you want to go that route.

One cheap and easy mod is rotating the engine mounts 90*. There might be a write-up floating around here somewhere, otherwise I'll post up how to do it tomorrow when I have more time.

If your struts are worn, I would do those before the sway bars & strut braces.

If I bought another car, this is how I would mod:

180 T-stat
turbo mufflers & resonator delete
DP or U-bend delete
PCM --requires premium fuel
SLP airbox or Wizaired

Debadging , painting the inside (bezel and other features of your choice) and the engine bay are what i did and have only done as of now .. they cost minimal, basically paying for paint, and a few hours work.

If you're going to do sway bars and strut supports, just get the GMPP handling kit and you'll get the tubular trailing arms too.
And if your car has more than thirty miles on it, plan on doing struts too because they're worn out.

I'm just going to ask a noobish question, but buying a handling kit (such as the GMPP one listed above) would that decrease the body roll when turning at higher speeds ? and what other benefits would you get out of it?

The Ebay ones are crap. the tubing isn't large enough, and its a cheap filter.

Yes, sorry I didn't click link.
It looks like you've got a good start on your suspension. The GMPP handling kit is just about the best bang for your buck that you can get. You'll notice an improvement right away. It'll feel like you're riding on a rail.

At some time I would also suggest putting brakes on your list. Drilled/slotted disk work great, again a noticeable difference, and they can be gotten for pretty cheap on ebay.

just out of curiosity while we are on the subject.

has anyone just enclosed thier airbox completely and ran a tube down to the catfish mouth on the bottom to make ram air? seems like there is plenty of room for a system like this. even if its not true ram air it would be breathing the coldest air possible....

There's an intake set up even easier. It's called a FWI or Fender Well Intake. Basically it places the filter inside the fender between the splash guard and the fender. The tubing goes through the hole by the PCM. It's the coldest air possible with the shortest run possible.

I haven't seen any dyno runs to compare a FWI with a standard CAI so... The only downside to the FWI is sucking in water but as long as you don't try to ford flooded roads where water is above the "chin" you'd be fine.

My open cone set up cost me about $70. Majority of the cost was the K&N filter. The rest was from Home Depot. Works perfectly well for me.

I had a fender well intake on a previous car and it was always soaked when it rained....

I think I will pass on that..

I will be doing a K&N cone though. maybe just leave it enclosed like a normal CAI home depot style and run a pipe in to open wind down below to pipe some cold air up that way laugh

I have a CAI on the blazer and did not notice anything until I put a shield around it to keep it in a cool area. I got average 2mpg better around town.... when you are at 17mpg thats very exciting. lol

Autozone C Max Gold brake pads are awesome. Much better than the Hawks, I think.

No need to run tubing down if you leave the "box" open to the cutout in the fender. Plenty of cold air is pulled in through there and past the headlight.

I got R1 rotors and Hawk pads... someone else recently had asked a question about brakes in another thread and I gave them a link to a guy on club gp that was selling some D/S rotors and pads for like $160, brand new. Can't find the thread right now.

Yeah just go CAI home made, unless you wanna shout out the money like I did and get a K&N set-up. I just ordered a GMPP set-up and actually just got it in today, will have that on in the next 2 weeks. So i'll let you know how I feel about that.

You can install the GMPP kit by yourself in 3 hours if you are a decent wrencher. It would help to have another set of hands. The front sway bar and rear can be tricky.

Undo the tie rod ends and the sway bar will almost fall out, just don't go twisting on the tie rods or you'll get your alignment all out of whack.

On the GP you can get the filter up higher and if you leave the splash guard in (the plastic fender liner) there is relatively no issues.

That pic is just asking for trouble. I see a rock flinging off tire ripping the filter and...

I think im just going to go with the cone in a segmented area....

I have an intake system in the garage off the blazer. I can cut down to fit the gt. 3" diam pipe should be plenty for her.

need to swap the cheap cone for a K&N or Amsoil though...
