I've been wondering about this for while now. I know the guys over at DodgeIntrepid.net managed to pull it off a couple of times even though I never attended. Mostly because the site admin was in the Chicago area so thats where he threw the meet. Getting such an event off the ground is no small feat and I realize it means a major vacation for pretty much everyone involved. Those with families (and wives) find this to be a tough sell in most cases. I know the Chrysler 300 owners pulled off a pretty cool meet by hooking up with DaimlerChrysler and getting a tour of the assembly plant. They did food at nearby drive in (which the place reserved just for them) and then a Sunday cruise followed by a show-n-shine. Carlisle PA is always a huge show but getting a space for your group takes some doing as I understand it...Ita really more of a thought than anything else. We talk so much here about everything we do it just seems like a meet would be a natural...maybe Brian at PFYC could organize something for us?...btw, where are our cars built anyways?

I think a meet would be great! We are so spread out though, it'd be tough. I know that on ClubGP the regional forums (sw, se, ne, etc.) are often arranging small meets for like a three/four state area, but to be completely honest I really have no interest in meeting the type of people that frequent clubgp, from what I've seen go on at that site. Well T-bat, you've got someone to second your idea... let's see if we can manage to work something out. laugh

I would go, no doubt I would go.
I do agree it would be a tough challenge because we are spread out so much.

Our cars, up to '02, were built in Kansas City. From '03 and up, they are built in Canada.

I would definately like to attend but like most would need some advance notice ,T-bat why do'nt you see if you can organize a central meet spot and see how many could attend.

Well, it's done then. We'll meet in Canada... HA! Anyway, I'd definately consider coming down. It would be nice actually if I could order some parts and send the to someones house down in the states, meet by there and install them there. - That alone would almost pay for the trip in savings.

Perhaps someone could do a geographic survey of all interested and find out what we need to deal with in terms of a common meeting place. (Someone more familiar with the States) Then people could figure out how far they would have to go.

12 hours from Maine puts you somewhere in Pennsylvania...right?...oh wait, is that 12 hours drive time or flight time?

I say since most of our cars were "born" in Kansas City we meet there. Its only fair that they all get to see their "home town" one more time laugh

Drive time LOL. Now if only I could talk the squadron into hauling my car for me. Actually I don't think I'd wanna haul my car on the plane. Not very many places to put tie down chains. I'd have to put enough chains on it to restrain it for 3gs of decelerating force.

With enough planning and advance notice this thing could come together quite well. And besides, most hotels and exhibits offer group discounts, we'd just have to confirm who could go and where and when and what to do... head spinning from the thought of all that planning kooky

I noticed Austin posted in another thread that Texas Motor Speedway host events where you get to drive your car on the track and get pics in victory lane...I personally think that would be off-the-charts cool!...the drawback being of course that Texas aint exactly central. I think the Kansas City idea has merit but I dont know what else is nearby out there. I think It would be awesome to have a track day. We have RIR here in Richmond and Virginia Motorsports Park in nearby Dinwiddie County (dragstrip)...of course the North Carolina area has more than its share of racetracks (theres gotta be someplace else that does what TMS does...plus we need a cruise-in spot with good food for a show-n-shine...there is a local car club called "Southern Knights Cruisers" that does shows for charity events...maybe they might have some good info...you guys fire away with any ideas yo uhave here...there are no bad suggestions.

Sounds awesome. Hhmmm, where to meet???

BTW, there's a nice race track in the Chicago area. It's next to a horse track just in case you feel 'lucky'.

maybe each of us that has a track nearby should check and see what the cost/time/availability of such an event would be...plus food places and hotels...if everybody digs for some info, we're bound to come up with something...maybe we should be checking for the best location for what makes a good/fun meet...it may not be the most central, but any way you slice it some are gonna have to travel farther than others...I think each of us should kinda prepare ourselves for something say in a years time (gives us plenty of prep time)...and if your home area turns out to be the best place for the meet, then we'll have to count on you for info and arrangements there...sound cool?...I'll try to check in with Richmond Raceway, Virginia Motorsports and Virginia International. Although I think VIR is a gorgeous facility, its located near Danville and there aint much else nearby (I mean not even a gas station)...Va Motorsprts Pk has potential as long as we dont clash with any of his national event dates...but thats just a dragstrip (although that could still be cool. we could give a trophy for fastest GP, best show-n-go, best cruiser and so on)...I'll get back with some info.

Hey, don't forget the award for best 3100 lol
I'll check it out around here. I'm pretty much smack in the middle of NC, see what the various tracks have to offer. There's plenty of good food out here, and the weather is usually inoffensive

Anytime will work with me, except May 14th. That's the Laps for Charity at TMS. I've already decided If this gets off the ground, I'm going!

If Bristol did anything like the laps for charity, that would be cool too. I'd love to take my car around Bristol, 36* banking... WOO HOO!

If we're going to be near a race track, maybe we can see if there's a truck race at that track that we could go to. Truck races are just as exciting as the cars, just that there is a lot less of a crowd. You can walk up to the ticket window an hour before the race starts and buy tickets. I think Daytona is the only truck race they sell out.

A trip to Daytona USA would also be cool.

We have this annual event every Oct. down here in Mississippi thats called Cruising the Coast. People from all over w/ cars from every decade come down here for it. This past year there were like 5k cars registered for it. Plus alot more just showed up. Its a week long scheduled event. Lots of different events go on like concerts, burnout allies, parades. The whole event goes through like 7 or 8 different towns. Its really cool seeing all the cars cruising up and down the beach. Would be cool to see a big GP invasion for it. Just a thought...What you all think???

joining an already organized event has its advantages for sure...just like Carlisle and other events from GoodGuys...and it might be a good way for us to get started since we wouldnt have to plan it all...definitely worth considering...thanx for the info thumbsup

thanx for the link, that looks like it might be pretty cool...we could just hook up for almost any part of it...might be able to talk my wife into that for a vacation...I still dig the idea of being able to take our cars around a track though...that plus the pictures would be way cool!

Its a really cool event. There would be no planning on our part. All we'd have to do is just see how many could make it and just met up. Im hoping some interest will come of it.

Grand Prix plant WAS in Kansas City, Kansas.
Begining with the '03 model, it's now in Canada.

I dont know if Indy does any kind of event where they would let you take your car on the track...but being able to go to Indy would be awesome...the granddaddy of all racing in the USA...to get a shot of my ride on the"stripe of bricks" would be fantastic!...I think I remember seeing something over at ClubGP where a local chapter got together at Lowes MotorSpeedway (Charlotte) and got to do some laps there...just not sure where I saw it.

That is actually happening on april 8th, this year, I was going to go, but didnt get signed up quick enough to hang out with all the other GP'rs on pit road so I dont really want to drive all the way to have to park somewhere else, but it should be a pretty cool event

If this actually gets off the ground, maybe where ever we end up, we could locate a dyno and see if we could get a group rate on all of us getting dyno'd.

Here's what the Southwest region has to offer:

TMS Laps for Charity. Plans can be made for next year in May, or this year in September.
I'm sure I could find someone in the DFW area with a dyno and we could all get dyno'd at a group rate. We could get that done one day.
Malibu Grand Prix Speedzone either on Friday night or Saturday afternoon. We could get some competition going. They've got 4 events, two are timed, and the other two are head to head. One with up to 15 cars at a time (slick track), and one with 20 cars at a time (grip track).
Dragsters and Grand Prix tracks are timed events. I could possibly get with Brian and have him donate 4 $25 gift certificates to go to the winner of each of the four events.
End it all on Saturday evening with the Laps for Charity event held at TMS. 3 paced laps for $25, plus another $10 to have your pic taken in Victory Lane. Dallas area GP owners usually show up for this, we could hook up with them on the way in so we all go in together.
There's also a GM truck plant in Arlington, but I haven't been able to find anything about taking a tour there. Not sure if they even give tours. I'll have to find a number for them and call.
Plus there are numurous other things to do in the DFW area.
There are also a couple of drag strips in the area. We could do that on Friday night.

Unfortunatley I know this will be too far for some to travel, but that's what I've come up with for this region.
What else is out there.
Who has any other ideas.

thanx for the info Austin...those things sound like they would be a good dose of fun (lets just remember to find things for those of us who have wives and girlfriends who aren't car nuts)...like you said, plenty to do around that area...I'm still trying to dig up info for around here (RIR) but still have nothing yet...we have plenty of other things here but they arent local to the track so it would involve some moving around...Texas is quite a hike for me and for some others but that is a cool list of things to do...of course its a hike for you guys to travel too (Texas is just so darn big!)...we'll need to gather some more info and see if we can get a concensus on something...so far we have "Cruisin on the Coast" (Ole Miss) and the "Texas Motor Speedway Malibu Blast" (hey, we gotta call it somethin!)

I believe Mike(99GT2dr) will be taking one of his GP's too. And I believe Dove5295 from clubgp, say he is going to try and make it. I know his car is at Loyds right now though
