think of it this way if the show is a flop Pontiac or Chevy's image won't be tainted by a cheasey bust of a show.

As much of a Mustang fan as I am, that picture in that link is disgusting...

Personally, I think this is just a rumor. I did a Google search, and several of the links on the first page actually mention the Koenigsegg CCX as the new KITT, but I didn't see any others mentioning the Mustang. Do a search for "New Knight Rider" and "New Knight Rider Car" and you'll see what I mean.

Sounds like people are making stuff up, IMO.

x2

It won't be a mustang. I think someone made it up and this site posted it on there to get web hits.

I say bring back the Pontiac Banshee laugh

You can check out the bottom of the wiki page to find out a little more about the movie and potential series. If Miramax is doing the film, then I may see it. I'm a fan of their films. I don't think they have decided yet. The Koenigsegg CCX was a recommendation by a fan.

I like 1:20 and especially 1:32 (judging how fast he was going, he wasn't kidding). That pretty much ruined the show for me after I laughed for a while. Kinda like meeting your hero in real life.

If they dont use a Pontiac/GM car I think it will be disappointing, but I dont think it will make or break the series. People will either like the new series or dislike it, most remakes dont live up the nostalgic hype anyway.

obviously the designers of this...whatever it is...are NOT carguys. Not only is it an insult to the whole of mustang enthusiasts but a direct urination on the whole mystique of KITT.

And while I semi-appreciate the offer of using my car as a model for the next generation of KITT, I would never soil the image of the Dark Knights long string of potent Bat_Machines. The ThunderBat is as close as I will ever come to owning a Batmobile. To me KITT will always be a pale shadow of the Batmobile (in my slightly biased opinion of course)

Dont get me wrong, KITT was a pretty cool ride from a cheesy TV show. (kind of like the original Batmobile)...but KITT was based on firebird, which a pretty aggressive looking ride to start with and thankfully they made very little mods to it...but this poor pony looks worse than the ill-fated "super pursuit mode" (could that have been any less aerodynamic?)

Fast and the Furious 4?

Since it can 'shapeshift', it needs to shapeshift back into something that doesn't look like domestic rice.

I'm kinda surprised but it doesn't look that bad to me.

Remember, the old Knight rider was very ricey
"http://www.jayohrberg.com/resources/_wsb_507x402_KR+Super+Pursuit+1a.jpg".

That "combat mode" they are mentioning kinda worries me. I'm a fan of Sidney Poitier's daughter so I may watch it.

What's funny is the Mustang body style may change a year after its first season since the body style is about 3 or so years old now.

I'm not complaining though. I like Mustangs laugh

Btw, whoever wrote that article is an idiot. That's not a Mustang, it's clearly a Shelby GT500, even with that ricer crap on there. Big difference - a blower and 200hp, for starters.

I DID find this picture online though:

Not as good looking as I would have thought...or as good looking as something T-bat could come up with. lol

*EDIT* Found a pic of a Soltice KITT, also. *shakes head*

Dunno.

Having a big front end bearing down on ya verses a sleek pointy hood. Either way I'm not sure how long the series will last. Guess it depends on the writing. If they are one dimensional, I'm not watching.

Seen a trailer for the new show starting feb 17th.

99.9% positive the new car is a Cobra/shelby version of the new stang.

This one will have two lights in the grill going back in forth instead of the classic single.

By the way all the shelby GT500s start life as a standard mustang GT. Just rerouted for upgrades prior to sale.

I really dont think that the car itself is that bad at all. I would trade that for my GP in a second. I understand why you guys are upset that it is a "mustang" but i think that car is pretty damn cool looking (minus the spoiler(s))

Yeah, that is possibly rice. Most likely, in fact. but you see, in the 80s, they didnt have the concept of Rice like we do now. They werent subjected to F&F series, Import Tuner Magazine, and much of their same ilk. Back then, that was a screamin SBC with constant 250-hp spray and twin charged just tryin to keep itself on the bloody ground.

Ok, mayhaps not twin-charged, but you get the idea. One hellaciously fast F-Body with plenty of go-fast goodies that needs all that downforce and cooling.

Wow, I'm surprised no one has been talking about this show...what did y'all think?

Personally, I thought it was a poorly written Ford commercial that should have been a poorly written Pontiac commercial. lol

There was just too many things wrong...like SUVs being able to keep up with a GT500.

And the fact that they kept calling a GT500 a Mustang was getting on my nerves. They are two completely different cars...

lol ok...sorry guys but i gotta step in here...im a diehard mustang fan and pontiac fan...but Acefighter they call it a Shelby GT500 but it is part of the mustang family there for it is a mustang shelby gt 500....now im not bashing your words but im just sticking up for mustangs...lol i know someone might disagree with me but each of those mustangs were V6s...they might have shown ONE shelby gt 500 but there not gonna spend 50k on each car to ruin it.....i personally liked how they transformed each car, i thought it was pretty futuristic....now when ppl were caling it ricey earlier in this post...what if they woulda put a camaro as the car...im sure they would have done something similar...remember im nto bashing ne one but im just putting my .02 cents in to this disgussion....i will agree that it was poorly scripted on the fact that they had the ford edge keeping up with a mustang that was going over 100 mph, i also dont like how they filmed it because every chance they got they were advertising the shelby....i mean its cool n all but like someone said parts of it were basically a 2-3 minute commercial for the car....btu other than that i thought it was awesome...and by the way they ended it im thinking there gonna be making more.... thumbsup

I had a power outtage so I missed it. But from what I hear I didn't miss much and sounds like It woulda been a mistake for GM if they backed it. Sounds quite abit like that old Viper tv show.

Sadly, I think the Viper TV show was better. Knight Rider apparently tried to rely on nice cars and pretty women instead of investing money on good writers and actors.

Then again, if they waited on the writers strike it wouldn't have aired, but might have been saved.

Hey, I'm a Mustang fan too. Always have been, always will be. I would have bought a V6 Mustang instead of my Grand Prix, but the snake sold the car out from under me. But KITT still isn't a Mustang. It's a completely different car. It's like saying the Grand Prix and Grand Am are the same car. Sure they're similar, but they aren't the same car.

Oh, and btw...the fact that the FBI agent was a lesbian? COMPLETELY unnecessary.

The movie was just stupid...hopefully they won't keep making the GT500 look bad by making a series out of it.

It's not a Mustang Shelby GT500...the word Mustang isn't anywhere in the car's name.

The GT500 is made by SVT, not regular Ford. It's got a completely different engine, different suspension, different interior, similar but definitely different body...not to mention it weighs a hell of a lot more.

The car doesn't have horse anywhere on it, just a snake. Because it's not a Mustang. Like I said, it's like comparing the Grand Am and Grand Prix.

Try again Ace.

The Shelby is a Mustang. Plane and simple. Only difference is a GT is sent on to another plant for modifications and upgrades. Nothing like a GP compared to a GA. More like a stock Corvette compared to a Callaway or Ligenfelter modded Vette.

Even though the GT500 is a Mustang, Ford doesn't market it as one. It isn't listed at your link and they never combine the Mustang and Shelby names together anywhere. The only Mustang appears as a logo at the top, but nowhere in print.

Here is the link to the GT500: http://www.svt.ford.com/

If you click on the models on the top Both the coupe and vert are listed amongst the models. Oh and if you click on either the coupe or vert and then open the PDF it has Mustang all over it. I'd link it but Ford won't let me.

I use to own a Mustang. That was the worst car that I have ever driven. It is just coming from personal experience. If you like Mustangs then cool. That is your choice. I am not trying to start something, I am just expressing my opinion. Sorry if I offended you.

I don't remember the model, but it was an 89. The torque converter blew in half after 3 months of owning the car. Also, I put brand new tires on it, and that thing did not like driving in the rain. I could not stop worth nothing. Of course, that could just be the fact that I hadn't ever driven a rear-wheel drive vehicle until then.

Modifications? I don't call an entirely different engine (5.4L vs 4.6L, DOHC vs SOHC, 24 valve vs 32 valve, an extra 60 or so cubic inches, etc), a different tranny (Tremec TR-6060 vs Tremec TR-3650), plus better brakes, chassis, suspensions, etc, simple "modifications."

That's exactly like comparing a Grand Am to a Grand Prix. Similar and yet obviously different bodies, yet very different engines and transmissions.

Plus, the 2007 model was the ONLY one to be built by Ford. The 06 GT/GT-H models (which WERE just modified GTs with an intake, exhuast, and tune) and the current and future models are built at Shelby's headquarters.

If you go to your Ford dealership and by a Saleen or a Roush Mustang (which at my local dealership would cost $55k for a stage 3, $30k for just the Roush package), or even the new Bullitt, then you bought a modified Mustang GT. If you buy a GT500 (excluding the 06 Shelby GT/GT-H), then you bought a different (albeit similar) car.

As I said, I too am a Mustang fan, '01 GT. smile

*EDIT* Herc, wouldn't comparing the stock Vette to those Vettes be like comparing the Mustang to a Roush or Saleen? That's what it looks like to me...just modifications, not a new engine and everything...but I could be wrong.

Ace your wasting your breath trying to say it's comparable to a GP to a GA. The two share nothing not even the floor pan. By the way the GT-H is only availble to Hertz. And yes I do call dropping in a 5.4 over a 4.6 as a modification.

Look.
If you were to order a Shelby GT500 this is what happens. Ford builds a GT puts it on a trailer ships it to Shelby who then rips out what it doesn't want and installs the parts it does want. Then ships it to you as a Shelby.

Ahhh what did I find
shelby calling the KR a mustang?

"About Shelby Automobiles, Inc.

You can't take a Grand Am and turn it into a Grand Prix. There is no comparison.
As Herc has noted, Shelby takes a mustang and tweaks on it to make it a Shelby GT 500. Is it still a mustang? Yes, it's a mustang that's been tweaked by Shelby, which would now be known as a Shelby GT 500.
If you take a Grand Am and tweak on it, will it then be known as a Grand Prix? No.

That I would agree with.

And again, I don't call different...well, almost everything "tweaks."

However, I think we're going to have to agree to disagree on this.

Come on look even Shelby calls it a Mustang

Taken from their news page top line

"SHELBY AUTOMOBILES UNVEILS LIMITED EDITION 40th ANNIVERSARY PACKAGE FOR SHELBY GT500 MUSTANGS"

How can you argue with that?

Using your premise that because it's a 5.4L and better suspension and body mods makes it a different car then I guess the New Corvette ZR1 isn't a Vette.

ok so i need to chime in again because this is getting ridiculous...lol a mustang and a mustang shelby GT 500 is like comparing a Honda Civic to a Honda Civic SI. they r the exact same thing...same body...same chasis...SAME EVERYTHING except the motor...that is the same with the mustang gt and the mustang shelby GT 500.....EVERYTHING is the same except for the engine....which is a bigger engine in order to give it the 450 some HP.....

I read a few replies and its kinda nice seeing a friendly, funny debate.

Its like an SAT test:

Mustang GT is to Shelby GT as:
a) Grand Am is to Grand Prix
b) Buick Regal is to Grand Prix
c) Pontiac Firebird is to Pontiac Firehawk
d) All the above
e) none of the above

Well, let's look at the logic for each.

(a) Let's say its a year where they both have the same engines. Could they be the same car? No. Two different body styles.
(b) Well these are sister cars. Same frame, same engines. Different body and name. Are they the same car? No.
(c) Same frame and body except for the molding and hoods. Different engines. Different suspension(?), etc. Lotta work done on it. Is a T/A or a Firehawk is still a Firebird? No. Are they all the same car? Kinda, just a uber versions. Same thing with a Mallet Corvette vs. Corvette. Or a Cutlass vs. 442.

Answer is (c).

Manufactures have a overlapping line on when to give a modified car a new name or to just say its a package to an existing car. Primarily, they choose based on marketing purposes, NOT for any technical reasons i.e., amount of modifications. Let's not fall into the same trap and view the reality.

Summary:
Is a Shelby GT a Mustang? The Shelby GT, Roush, Mustang GT are all built on the same platform. Its a Mustang but the proper way to address it is "Shelby GT". You wouldn't call a Trans Am a Firebird (depending on the year wink )

OK, I'm done with the debate, but I have to say that post is WRONG. Did I not point out other differences? Another big difference is the tranny.

It's not JUST the engine.

Ace a rose by any other name is still a rose.

Plus did you miss the part that Shelby calls it a "Shelby GT500 Mustang"?

Meaning they took a stock GT and wrenched on it to make the KR?

While you're right that the Shelby GT is just a regular GT that is sent to Shelby and converted, the GT500 is built right alongside the GT's and V6's at the plant. The KR is the only GT500 that is sent to Shelby to be built.

Since we're on the topic... Just found out a guy in my neighborhood has a black '07 GT500 in his garage. Can't wait till spring so I can see it on the street! laugh

I will do no such thing. But I WILL admit that I can see some merit to that argument, even if I don't agree 100%. :p

But the engine still isn't the only difference. crazy

I'm not sure I agree. The acting sucked, and there were just to many things that were outrageous in the movie. I mean, I know it's a movie, but some of it was just SO unbelievable...

You know, the body style used for the Camaro never has appealed to me, but for some reason, THIS does. I honestly don't know why...too bad they didn't use this as KITT.

Actually, I was concerned w/ using a car w/ a body style that came out in 2005. Since KR was almost like a Ford commercial so I assume Ford has a play in the series writting. I'm not sure how they will deal with a new Mustang model. Kitt explodes in cliffhanger season finale and come back as a 201x Mustang? If they time it right, it would be a good way to sell the new release.

BTW. Anyone seen the new commercials with Knight Rider with a S/C inlet at the top? I can't find a pic of it.

Even though this was required, this was one of ther corniest things about the movie.

"I am your father."
Um, who's the mother? Micheal Knight was a free range kinda guy.

FYI: Val Kilmer is K.I.T.T.'s voice.
