You get a small look. If it comes with RWD and a V8 and four doors I'll be inline.

This has been on ClubGP for a while. As someone else said, it looks like a BMW.

I kind of like the way it looks. I wish it had a larger front end though along with a bigger engine bay. Have the front end keep going beyond the front tires more than 2 inches. frown Even with that, I do think it's a cool looking car...now hopefully it's got decent get up and go!

Over the past couple month or so, being without any NASCAR racing, I've caught a few of the Australian V8 races on SPEED.
Holden uses it as their race car. I hate to say it but it looks pretty good in full race trim. Wing on the back, splitter up front, screaming V8 engine.

Bobby Lutz is in full swing...the front end looks so much like a Beemer its just scary...except for the scooped hood...I guess the four door GTO is about to land...could be a potent ride.

Tbat did you photo chop that spoiler? I like it alot. Wonder what it would look like on the 97-03s.

Since they are calling the new car the G8 I guess the GP name will be dropped. frown

I dint buy a new GP...the sig is just a fantasy car...I can chop pics a lot cheaper than I can buy cars laugh

...back to topic, since the G8 is slated to replace the GP...does this also mean some version of the Holden cars is also scheduled to replace the Impala and Monte Carlo as well?

In a priceless move for GM at the Chicago Auto Show set, they had a video of the G8 playing while everything was being set up. Someone captured these pics from the video.

The GTO was eliminated last year due to the Monaro going away......

Here are some pics of the G8 from the Chicago show.

My opinion: Get rid of the chrome in the tailights and make the Pontiac grill smaller. That's the only flaws I could find. It's definately muscular looking.

I love the front esp. the ram air hood. The rear needs to lose the "altezza" type brake lights and the spoiler needs to be full width.

x2. I hope it's standard and isn't a money-grubbing option.

IMHO, they should use the tails they used on the last revamp of the Monaro/GTO. laugh

Lots of pictures of the actual G8

Imho: big freaking disappointment. It has so little of the Commodore's awesome aggressiveness. It looks almost as boring as the other Pontiac G cars, and looks too similar to them. Taillights look like ass, too.

I guarantee this will confuse the general public to no end?

"What is that? G5? No? G6, G8, G7? B4, I8, O7 ... BINGO!!"

The "G" thang is corny but I don't think the G5,G6,G8 thing will be confusing.
The danger is with that G5. Its like an sub-economy G6.

I gotta have it.

6 liter V8 362hp and a six speed auto. 0-60 if less then 5.5 secs and it's a four door!!!!

Love how they brought the car out. Watch the video you'll see what I'm talking about.

Here's a chart for comparative cars

Its pretty competitively priced and equiped. Looks like the 6 speed manual might give the G8 the edge over the charger. I guess we'll have to wait and see though. I think the G8 looks a lot better than the Charger, but the SRT-8 is one sexy car.

Remember there is only two trim levels as of now the base and the GT. Pontiac wants to have a GXP across the board so look for 09 to get a GXP package with gobs and gobs of power. The SS vette should be on the street by then with over 600 ponies and the base well into the 400s so a 400hp G8 could very well be possible.

Only thing I don't like about the G8 is the sample pics of the interior the two tone grey and tan yuck I'd imagine various options will be available the wheels, they just don't fit the bodystyle and most of all that 3900 pound curb weight.

I agree with all of the above. That interior is just .. BLECH. GM seriously needs to get some new people designing their interiors. I've hated the wheels they had on it from the get-go, but they'll definitely have different options on that. Also .. that is a fat car. 3900?!

I wonder what it will end up running in the fourth.

I also hope there's sufficient aftermarket appearance for this car, since I am of the opinion that GM smoothed out alot of the Commodore's sexy aggressiveness. Those taillights are still ugly as crap, too. VHT anyone?

From this angle I like the look of the wheels. The center blends in with the brake rotor. I'd imagine these wheels will only be for show.

I would like to back up Herc's statement with the idea that when '09 comes around, the 500HP LS7 should be in the base model Vettes, bringing up the par for it's followers..... smile
If not the LS2, something comparable is inevitable.

Anyone notice in the chart, the hp peaks at 3700rpm. Is that a misprint? Honestly, for the cash, I'd rather have a Charger. The main thing I don't like about the Charger is its weight... 100lb difference between it and the G8.

The Charger, however, has a wide stance and not the tall euro-look, plus I get enough extra cash to do a lot of mods to it. The thing that took me by surprise in the latest pictures is the G8 creates an optical illusion of being narrow.

Got to say that this chart is very convincing. I didn't know it did 0-60 in 5.5. This is starting to change my mind about the car.

Put em side by side then compare

The charger is taller then the G8 and the G8 is wider overall.

It's an optical illusion and it works in the Charger's favor. That wide front grill and headlights make it a appear wider with a more aggressive stance. The vertical lines on the G8 produce a much narrower look. The Charger looks more aggressive (and appealing imo) because of that.

When's that beast due out? And which one of us is going to be the first one to get it? Should we start a betting POOL? I see standard auto trans for V8. Is there a manual available? What about that V6 engine. How does that compare to our GTP engine, I see HP is higher stock.

I wish our cars were available with a manual... thats what i was looking for when i was shopping around, but I test drove the GP, and fell in love with it right away... We can pray for a manual option V8 *drool*

I think the G8 is going to be a worthy successor to the GP...I will miss the name badge cuz "G8" doesnt get my blood pumping but the comparison chart is pretty convincing. I am very much looking forward to seeing the car up close at NYC, but I do have to go along with Arcxnus on the taillights...the euro altezza crap has to go (IMO) I like the front and the dual scoop hood but it needs a more aggressive rear spoiler (probably on a GXP model) and I'm no big fan of silver/gray body color...the styling of the interior is actually nice looking but the color choices blow chunks. (ebony leather and red is more my speed...along with a jet black paint job)...all moot for me really cuz I aint about to pony up $30k for any car.

Two engine options
3.6L DOHC V6 260hp with 5 speed auto
6.0L OHV V8 362hp with the option of 6 speed auto w/tap shift or 6 speed manual.

Keep in mind the LS2 won't be around much longer. Looks as if GM is developing a 6.2L for a replacement.

Also it looks like GM will let you add options to the base model that the GT will have so buyers can have all the looks they want but keep the smaller "more economical" engine.
