Buy or make a website

I may be interested in buying a domain and making a website for advertisement. Can anyone of you point me in the right direction? I went to godaddy.com and got confused. How much should one cost and how do I set it up and all?

The Domain name should cost you somewhere in the realm of $10 a year after the first year.

To use the name to point people to a website you need a server. That should cost you no more than about $8 a month unless you want a lot of bandwidth and storage, then the price starts going up from there.

Once you have a server, the domain name that people type into their browser will be directed to your website that you build, or have built for you... No clue what it would cost to have a website built, I've always made my own.

Making your own can be done on your computer with software, but if you don't have any knowledge of HTML, I don't know how successful you would be with it...... My knowledge is just enough to get me by with a low maintainence website.
