I have a message saying 44 items on my computer that can infect my computer, its some type of virus and the norton antivirus thing keeps popping up but I have to pay 44 dollars to use the norton virus thing to get rid of the 44 items of potential threat items.

Do I just by a norton antivirus from a store and this will go away or is it more to it than that.

For the time being I have to use the computer at work the the home computer hasn't been turned on in 1 week until I get rid of this virus threat thnig.

HELP ME>>>>>>>>>>>

Personally, I would download a free anti-virus program, and run it. It probably won't do as well as Norton, but it should some back with SOMETHING and let you know if there's really a problem.

Try to get a hold of NOD32 or Kaspersky. Two Great AV's and throw Norton out. It uses more resources on a computer that needed, so it slows down your comp.

if you have aim, msn, gtalk you can give me an add and im sure I can help ya smile

I like AVG and NOD32...... Never heard of Kaspersky.
Keep in mind that not all AV programs are created equal. I had a problem on my PC that AVG didn't spot but NOD32 did.

NOOOOOOOO Spybot Search and Destroy has been known to delete things that you need. Unless you are good with computers I wouldn't recommend it. You could use Webroots "Spy Sweeper". It gets the job done.

Also if you ever have a file you want to scan for a virus you can upload it here and it will scan it with a bunch of different AV's

I've used AVG and I didn't like it nearly as much as NOD32 or Kaspersky. NOD32 uses very little resources which is very nice smile

I use both spybot and adaware. I use adaware followed up by spybot and have yet to have any issues. I then use regvac to clean the rest of it up.

Speaking of adaware mine keeps telling me my database is currently 171 days old but there are no updates available. Is it just me or is something amis with adaware?

Maybe they fixed S&D, but when I used it back in 04 it deleted some needed .dll files and messed with the registry. So I've never used it sense.

For the database being old that's a little odd...
