Don't gap the plugs!!! it can peel off the platinum/iridium coating on the electrodes. They should all be pre-gapped, with those cardboard or plastic protectors on the end.

Thanks PGP200GT.

I did the job and finished in about an hour and a half, without removing the dog bones. I thought about doing it but first reach back to see if I could get to them. Also, the setting was pretty close.

Funny though, cause after I finished cleaning the garage and all, I went and showered just as if I were getting ready for a date. Took it out on the highway, and man it feels sweet. This was a nice day. Thank You, and Da man Austin GTP

I've never heard of this....I may be wrong by doing so, but I always gap my plugs around .057-.058".
Something as simple as shipping may alter the gap, so I always check, and sometimes adjust accordingly.

Later now,
Clint

Its the iridium plugs that are pre-gapped. I belive all others need to be gapped.

Always check the gaps. Period. Pregapped or not. Errors do and will occur. To prevent breaking the platinum off use feeler guages; not the wire type gap checker or the cheap round thing found in all parts stores.

withstupid

Jack, if or when you do the mods, you can always gap your plugs so that your GP will benefit.

the plugs come with sleeves on the threaded end to protect the gap during shipping, and they're all gapped by machines, which leaves no room for error. scratching the platinum/iridium will not affect performance, and yes, a mis-gapped plug will, but it will affect the life of the plug.

I just put new platinums in mine last month and there were no sleeves to protect the gap.

I bought mine at wally world too, easiest and slightly cheaper place to get them, I didnt have to deal with the bull you get from auto shops. What a pain it is to install in the grand prix though took me about an hour and half to install, the boots were like welded onto the factory plugs, oh yah it is also was dark so that added to the fun. Back when I owned a saturn it took about 10 minutes to change the plugs.

hmmmmm. I've only dealt in OE's, they're all sleeved. My bad for assuming. I still wouldn't recommend gapping, but I know what you're saying

I used the small round thing to gap mine, I had the NGK iridiums and they had the cardboard at the end, 3 were .60 on the dot, the other 3 were between 58-61, I checked the gauge and the plugs after gapping them and didnt notice any scratching or peel, unless you cranked on it (your supposed to be VERY gentle gapping plugs) I cant see it being a problem.
