Okay, I took the door panel off Saturday afternoon to see what the deal was with my speaker. I began to look at the odd connections, and wondered how I would even begin to replace it. I plan on getting a new pair soon, and was wondering if anyone knew of a site that explained how to do a "professional" install, otherwise, I'll probably end up rigging it.

Do you have the bose system or standard?

Your best bet would be to go to Crutchfield they'll have some drop in replacements for ya.

Call Crutchfield!!!
I've rcv'd plenty of good help from them. They'll be more than happy to make sure you get what you need to di it yourself. You'll get speaker harness' when you order speakers from them so the install is as quick and as easy as they can make it for you.
Go to their website and plug your car information in and they will tell you what will work in your car. If you see something that you want, but does not come up in your search, don't try to buy it and make it fit, because it won't fit. Only choose from the selection that comes up to fit your car.
Use Crutchfield, they are very helpful.

I dont think it was very fair of the guy who wrote that article to say that you have to spend that kind of money for great sound. Not everybody considers great sound to be something that knocks the window glass out or vibrates the spoiler off the decklid. My GP has the best sounding factory system of any car I've ever owned. I have heard more than one person say that replacing the factory speaker will make it sound so much better you wont believe it. I guess I'll find out soon enough.

I too have heard that replacing the speakers will make a differance. I've always replaced the HU first, then speakers. I think this will be the first car that I'll replace the speakers, and leave the stock HU.
...and I agree. This car has the best stock sound system that I've ever had in a car. I hear people complain about how crappy the BOSE system sounds, I love the way mine sounds (except for my XM connection, I gotta get a hard wired modulator).

Woah... I have the BOSE and I love the sound.

Previous to this system (stock Bose) I've had a professional installed Alpine system in my Corvette, Kenwood in my Yukon, and Pioneer in my Jeep. My first plan was to swap out the entire system with a new Alpine when I did my Starter/Alarm, but because the sound was Way better then anticipated, I've left the stock Bose system.

I agree with you ThunderBat. I've seen some expensive speakers before, but never $600-$700 pairs of speakers, that's just insane. I plan on replacing my 5 1/4's with Alpine's and my 6x9's with Alpines. I already have changed my head unit to a nice JVC that plays MP3's cuz I can't live without the mp3 capability. wink

You can step the 5 1/4 up to I think it is 6 1/2 without any mods.

I still have my stock Bose system, but the 3 band equalizer was pretty much useless. And the Bose system lacks a lot of mid range and low bass.

I replaced the HU so that I could play MP3s and control the equalizer more to my liking. A decent pair of small subs will add enough bass to fill out the sound without breaking windows.
