Ever see a magnesium block catch fire?
I have. Not fun.
High school metal shop kid goes to cut an old engine block up with a cutting torch. Well said block was out of a VW and turns out made of titanium.
Needless to say school was cancelled for the day because the smoke was overpowering. Fire Dept had a hell of a time putting that fire out.
In the Navy many aircraft parts are made of magnesium. Wheels being the most prevelant. Any when those catch fire say bye bye air plane cause they'll push it over the side rather then try to fight it.
Real hard to put out a fire that produces it's own heat, fuel and oxygen.
