Just when you thought it couldn't get any better! GM just released pics and details of the 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP at the New York Auto Show! 400HP, manual trans, and in my opinion a much better looking front and rear. Let the drooling begin!

the rear looks sexy as hell but im not a fan of the front....i like the gt front better......

How much more do you need? Plus it probably keeps the V8 CAFE happy. If the GT stickers for 29k the GXP should sticker for roughly 33-34. Still the best hp for the dollar.

Now if they would come up with a little more aggressive styling for the GXP I think it would be a great candidate to drop the G8 moniker and just go with GTO. Ala Lemans, Tempest, GTO

I see very little difference (visually I mean)...the upgrade in hardware is tough, especially the manual option. I like the bright color and the chrome wheels but I would also like to see the stainless grilles and lose that lame-duck rear spoiler...a low pedestal deck wing that overhangs the tail lights would be boss.

and I believe 400 ponies is enough to get almost anyone is serious trouble as well as trashing clutches and frying tires bald at the dragstrip. There arent many cars on ANY showroom floor sporting over 400hp...especially in this price range.
I'm sure the full road tests upcoming in the major auto publications will show this car to be high on the "bang for the buck" list.
GM has already sounded the battle cry against the Camry and Accord with the new Malibu. The G8 might well have the audacity to challenge the likes of BMW and Mercedes. I certainly see it trumping the likes of the 300C and Charger SRT8 at a substantially lower sticker price.
In a very "musclecar" kind of way...even if it does come from the Land Down Under. Bobby Lutz might get his wish after all eh mate? Have a G'day and throw a GoodYear on the barbie for us.

I don't know... Still doesn't quite click with me. I like the numbers, but the styling is a little off.

I would've been more impressed if they had brought if over with the Holden skins on it. That and it's a heavy son of a gun...

It's not that over grown

Dodge Charger SRT8 = 4160 lbs

Audi quattro A4 (V6)= 3748 lbs RS4 (V8) gotta be heavier

BMW 550I (V8) = 5049 lbs

BMW 335 (V6)= 3814 lbs.

2008 Maserati Quattroporte =4387 lbs

I could go on and on but you get the picture.

V8/rwd/and all the other goodie hardware would have to make it heavier than our cars...if they got into aluminum alloys, titanium and carbon fiber for weight savings it wouldnt be under $30k anymore. I think they have done well for car that will fight a higher market...big question is will it win over enough people to make sales strong enough to keep it coming.

I love those tale lights. This gxp verson is ok but Its not really a difference from the GT of base model but I love those rims if it makes it to production. But 400hp is more than enough.
