Unless you're driving a 4WD truck w/ V8, you will not save money by getting another car unless its a beater that you get real cheap (like a couple $k). Not all 4 cylinders get good gas mileage either.

I have to admit the new civic coupes are pretty sharp looking cars and even though Honda does have a great reliability record I still cant justify the price they ask for them.

I looked at a G5 at the Richmond auto show this year and was pleasantly surprised at how much interior room it had. Now if they would just offer the supercharged Ecotec engine like the Cobalt SS they would have a lively little runner...or even a diect injected turbo like the Solstice GXP...sweet looking little car inside and out and for not a bad price.

There is a guy over on the Sebring board that recently traded his convertible for a Civic SI.

FInancially and economically its a great decision.
But I know the little racer in you wants more displacement.
Its ok, the Si's are pretty quick little bastards.

You're correct.

When you realistically look at the variables
-Monthly cost.
-Insurance.
-Less Gas

vs
-Insurance
-More Gas

You really don't save initially. Shortly after the car is paid for, you do start saving. But the benefit is you got a new car. No more random $$$ repairs. Hondas depreciate very slowly.

Its also a preference. Having to pay x amount per week for gas vs. paying a small amount per week for gas + car payments.

Another option would have been to get a used one but eh. Sometimes economics isn't the only reason to make decisions.

At least it is the same color!

This guy in the local club did the opposite of you:

" I was on my lunch break yesterday and I saw a CNN report on how oil is going to be 200 a barrel blah blah by December. I know gas is never going down again, ever and if I ever want a gas guzzler for a few years the time is now or never. I'll probably end up trading this car in for a Chevy Volt or some shit in a few years, but until then my girlfriend is going to drive this car daily because I am not sitting in rush hour traffic with it.

WC Nissan had a 2004 Cobra for sale, so I bought it last night. I got there around 5:30pm after I got done with work and didn't leave until 11pm..now I remember why I had my girlfriend go to Carmax to buy her to Mustangs. Jesus christ what a f***ing ordeal. I went through 3 f***ing finance sales..whatever c***** management members. Their initial offer on finance was going to be 600 a month..I lol'ed and said "sorry for wasting your time, this isn't the car for me." goes on like that for around 1.5 hours and me pushing the keys back across the desk numerous times. The a****** could NOT f***ing understand I was NOT paying anything that had a 5 or 6 in the first digit of payments.

The asking price was 25,900 I ended up paying 22k for the car and my out the door price was 26,900. It that dark cherry color, hard top, chrome rims all the b*****it.

I'm selling my SHO for $800 to a friend who wants a beater and my daytona GTP to the same guy who bought my black one for $3700. The black one that I had in 2006 is getting sold to another mutal friend as well. "

this little thing is awsome, i drove a cobalt and hated it, it was all over the road. the civic handles better than the cobalt ss and gets way better gas mileage. i'm only paying 135 a month, but i was seriously misquoted on isurance. its gonna cost me 1100 dollars more a year than what state farm quoted me, i got the quote in writing and i'm calling a lawyer tomorrow, they did the same thing when i bought the gtp. here are some better pictures

it isn't fast but it is alot of fun to drive, the suspension is stiff, and the car doesn't roll in corners. plus the 5 speed helps.

That is so bs. I use State Farm and payed them everything, and my bills are never consistant, each month is a different freakin amount. It sucks you can't drive without the insurance, they sometimes and make you go insane.
Yah if they put that in writing, do something about it!
How do they justify $1100 more a year, for something that is not supercharged, smaller engine, should be safer, more secure, maybe cause it is a high theft vehicle, I don't know.

Thats what it is, a high theft vehicle. Where I live people steal honda's all the time and it be all over the news. I know a person paying 290 for a 2003 civic SI hatchback.

the grand prix cost me 1600 a year for liability only, they quoted me at 800 a year for full coverage right before i bought it. the civic is 1800 a year for full coverage, they quoted me at 700 a year. i have to have full coverage because it is a lease, but i don't regret it, the regional manager for state farm is supposed to call me back tomorrow, so we'll see what happens.

Wow, your guys' insurance rates are outrageous. I pay $540 a year for full comp and collision on my '99 GTP, 100/500 deductibles, 100k/300k liability. 23 y/o married male, through state farm. Never had them mess around with me.

i kinda went the opposite i bought my gp last summer the gp is my baby and i have a 1997 plymouth breeze with a 2.0 auto that is still my dependable daily driver, and just last month i bought my ultimate gas saver a 2007 vt750c2 shadow spirit that im getting over 60 mpg's with. i hardly drive my grand prix, in the last 6 months i havent even put 1k miles on it but put 8k on it the first 6 months i had it. i love my gp but dont see a reason to put the daily wear and tear on it when i dont have to, basically im shelling out about $400 a month between insurance and payment for a car that sits alot.
congrats on the score of the honda, too bad though its only a lease instead of a purchase
