A few days ago my daughter called me very distraught that her husband's 1991 Grand Am had finally keeled over dead. They put the car in the shop and the mechanic said "engine rebuild time" so it has been cast away.
They are still very much a struggling young couple so I was asked to help them locate a car for cheap. Needless to say I've been here before I can remember searching for something just above junk was no fun. She was also concerned that her husband was going to go off and buy something more expensive than he should (done that number myself as well)
Amidst all the shopping and browsing I ran across a 2003 Bonneville SLE...only 46k miles, midnite blue metallic w/dark grey leather. It had the chrome sawblade wheels and was a lethal looker to say the least.
I commented about how hot I thought this car was. It was certainly out of their price range but for $9800 I think it was a steal. Then somehow the idea got fielded that she would buy the T-Bat from me and I could grab the Bonne for myself. She was all aflutter about buying my car despite the fact I kept telling her I just didnt know if I could suffer thru that or not.
Parents will do the craziest things for their kids. I got back home and took one look at the T-Bat parked in the driveway and thought "how in the world am I going to tell her I just dont think I can do this. Lucky for me she called back later to let me know her husband had bought a Mitsubishi Eclipse for $7000.

That bullet grazed by a little too close.

Good to hear it was only a graze... The T-Bat still has many years of service in your care I think. I'd have had a hard time parting with it if I were you as well.

well you saved the tbat, but I am not so sure I'd feel "lucky" for them on the 2003 eclipse purchase.
I hope everything goes well for him. going from a 91 grand am to a 2003 eclipse could mean trouble (aside from the reliability).

Good thing I'm not big fan of SpongeBob...I dont know if what I almost did would qualify as THAT stupid lol

I dont finance vehicles...helping out your kids is tough enough but if there is one thing I have learned so far...when it comes to repaid funds a parent will be the last on the list...if at all. (comes with the territory) So I dont spend anything on them I expect to get back.

At the risk of sounding selfish...if I'm paying for that Bonne, that sucker is gonna be sittin in MY driveway thumbsup

But at least it would have been in the family. You could borrow/trade for summer weekends, haha.
