Is this happening everywhere? In the past 3 weeks or so, gas has gone from $3.95ish for regular down to $3.49. Almost a $.50 drop! Has it dropped that much where the rest of y'all live?

(And the strange thing is, my car suddenly went from 18ish MPG to 20MPG. Same hot rod driving style. So I'm saving a good bit of money. LOL)

Today mine was down to 3.64 for 87. Don't know the 93 since they don't put it on the marquee. But usually it's .25 more then 87.

Word of caution. Look closely at the pumps at any station that is cheaper then a neighbor. It just may have 10% ethanol. It maybe cheaper but the mileage SUCKS!!!!!! Plus I read yesterday that quite a few stations (article didn't name names)when tested showed anywhere from 11%-20% ethanol. And have been fined accordingly. I can't remember the fine but iirc it was six figures a day until corrected.

As much as it hurt my pocket book I like what the high gas prices did. 12 billion miles less traveled in June this year then June of last year. Auto Manufacturers are working overtime on alternatives and people are shying away from oversized vehicles they don't need.

I'm afraid if gas falls to under $3 a gallon people will revert to their old ways. People are already re eying the SUVs esp. with the huge discounts that are being offered.

That might explain why my gas mileage increases when I switched stations...I didn't realize it gave you worse gas mileage.

I saw a story on the news about a couple gas stations in Houston that are having a hard core gas price war. It's down to $2.30! They aren't even posting the prices on the sign because the price changes every few minutes. People wait in line for an hour to get gas, and they run out daily. lol

Think about the money they are making, because no one else is getting ANY business. I wish more gas stations realized that.

*EDIT* Found the link

I avoid ethanol like the plague in my cars. I use to use it when i drove thru Iowa cause it was cheaper, but then found out my mpg dropped 10-15%.

Gas is down to 3.42 here for 87 and 3.62 for 91

Paying under $4 for premium now her. Spotted $3.86 for it today. However, seems like every gas station in Florida has 10% or less ethanol signs.

There's a reason for that.

We've got ports and oil refineries in the area, that's why it's cheaper here.

Tell that to Anchorage. Oil is in AK, refined in Anchorage and they still pay the highest per gallon in the US. Higher then HI confused

Gas is cheap in IA, always way under the national average. I think the falling prices are due to the strengthening US Dollar. We'll see how long that continues.

I wish there was more informaion about what parts of our cars would need to be replaced to allow E85. Being able to run that kind of octane at a SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper price than gasoling would be sweet.

You'll lose out in mpg. Not worth it that's why it's not all that popular.

B.S. Tune it. Yes, MPG drops, you get less energy from ethanol than you do from gasoline. However, with the cost difference, you'll more than make it up in current market. Cheaper, higher octane, less knock, more power. E85 is equivalent to race fuel if you tune properly. For half the cost.

Probably because there are only 7 residents in the whole state, and 3 of them are polar bears.

The station where I fill up has E10 now. 1 MPG drop in mileage overall. But when I smash it to the floorboard its right there without missing a beat... So I assume it just depends on how much YOUR car likes it.

On the E85 I live in the Atlanta metro area and I have yet to see a single E85 pump. The only one I know of is 13 miles out of my way.

I'm sorry but I still don't buy the E85 can get the same as mpg as petrol. Don't you think GM would be all over the fact that their E85 vehicles get better mpg over their standard powered vehicles. If it's a tune that's all thats needed the PCMs would be tuned to take advantage.

I don't know why GM doesn't market a sporty vehicle designed for E85, probably because as you say its very spotty as to where you can get it. However, for us midwesterners (Iowa and Illinois in particular), its readily available (5x more than Georgia).

I'm not suggesting E85 will give equivalent mpg to gasoline, I'm suggesting that with a properly tuned gas car and a properly tuned e85 car, because e85 is significantly cheaper than gasoline, your operating costs will be lower. Besides, racing fuel is a more accurate comparator than plain old pump gas. HUGE cost savings there.

edit: An example of whats possible with a little ingenuity: http://www.saabbiopower.co.uk/default.asp?docId=12599

I'm surprised I don't see more E85 compatable vehicles on the road. If you look at GMs site and build a vehicle the E85 option on the ones that are available is an upgrade at 0 cost to the buyer. If I was buying new and it had the E85 option I'd buy it cause the cost difference on purchase is zip.
