what do they actualy stand for...i know like H=130 ect but what happens if you exceed the rateing?
does the tire come apart?
does it just lose grip?
what exactly happens?

i remember reading that it "compromises the integrity". after you exceed the rating, it is not the tires fault. I have heard horror stories of it coming apart

The tire will tear it's self apart. The speed rating is the maximum sustatainable speed. Any prolonged exceeding of the max will cause the tire to overheat and start to breakdown and blow out to occur. A blow out at over 130 could be deadly.

I survived a blowout at 87 with a cracked rim, 1" gash in chassis, fuel lines moved, exhaust dented. But I found $800 in the trunk! What a fix.

I think you'd be alright. Just to see, one time after my top swap, I had my car up to 135 and my tires are only rated at 130. It was very brief though. Much longer at that speed would've made me very nervous indeed.

This is kinda off topic, but I bought a new pair of front tires in November and are in need of replacement already. Has anyone else experienced very bad tire wear on their front tires so quickly?

It sounds like you've got some issues with your front end. It could be as simple as a bad alignment, or could be tie rods (inner and outer) and other fun things like that.

I had that same thing happen to me with my Eagle Talon years ago. Inner and Outer tie rods were the culprits.

Also, I was able to get my tires replaced at a reduced cost because the wear was uniform. They took them back as a possible manufacturing flaw (iirc) and gave me a discount (these tires did not have a warranty on them either).

If you have taken it in for a wheel alignment recently, the place should have noticed the problem. I have Belle Tire do all of my rotations (since they're free), and they do an inspection every time. Hopefully your problem is something inexpensive to fix.

Also sport compound tires will wear faster then touring compound.

wats the speed rating on stock tires.....theve been replaced but i dont think an upgrade at all i forget the company off the top of my head but ive done 145 on them??!!!

GTPs come with H rated tires. Iirc H is limited to 130 hence the speed limiter set at 126. As for the GTs I'm not sure.

also, IIRc speed rating are listed for speeds on a straight shot, no turns in the mix, when you make turns at lower, but high speeds, it puts the same kind of pressure on the tires (does that make sense to anybody but me?)

i never thought about that, but im sure that plays into the equation. im sure it puts more stress on the tire
